The March full moon rises six days after the vernal equinox and marks the first lunar eclipse of 2024, making its energy appear “three times more intense”
Spring is in the air… and so is the March full moon!
This month’s full moon, called the Worm Moon, rises on March 25 (six days after the vernal equinox) and reaches peak brightness at 3:00 a.m. ET.
There are many reasons why the March lunation is called the Red Moon. One relates to earthworms that begin to appear in the spring, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanacand the other is related to the beetle larvae that appear at the beginning of the season.
In addition to its symbolic meaning, the full moon also has an astronomical meaning in the cosmic world. Celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE exclusively that these periods “symbolize turning points, culminations, endings or awakenings,” while its energy can be felt “three days before and after” a full lunation.

Thomas predicts this eclipse “will certainly be intense and profound.” While it could “trigger fateful and predestined events,” he assures that we’re likely to see results “ultimately for us if we lead with a mix of practicality while still opening our hearts.”
