The late ‘This Is Us’ actor shared a sweet bond with his daughter Jasmine
Ron Cephas Jones’ legacy lives on through his daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones.
The This is us the actor died on Aug. 19, 2023, at the age of 66, of “a long-standing lung problem,” Ron’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE.
“Throughout his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness and heart were felt by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him,” the statement continued.
Following the news of her father’s death, Jasmine paid tribute to him on her Instagram Story, sharing a black and white throwback photo of her resting her head on Ron’s shoulder.
While the two-Emmy actor was known for his role as William, Randall’s long-lost biological father on the this is us his daughter has an established career of her own, notably stemming from the role of Peggy Schuyler on Broadway Hamilton.

Jasmine recently released a single and accompanying short film in honor of her late father on his birthday on January 8, 2024. The track, titled “Brighter,” is an upbeat, R&B-pop track.
“Lyrically, it’s about your significant other bringing out the light in you and making you brighter. For me, it represents my family, friends and people I love who make me a better person and support me,” Jasmine told PEOPLE of the song. .

During the interview with Essence In 2020, Ron spoke openly about his relationship with Jasmine’s mother, Kim Lesley. Although the two were separated while Jasmine was growing up, he noted that they made co-parenting a priority early on.
“It took sacrifice on both sides and … therapy,” he said. “We were separated parents, but we were committed to being parents. We are proud of her success, but most of all she is happy and healthy. And that’s really all a parent can ask for.”
