In August 2018, Alyssa shared with PEOPLE how she handles difficult conversations with her kids about difficult topics and why it’s important for them to be aware of the world from a young age.
“I’m a big believer in telling them the truth, first and foremost, and not hiding anything from them,” she said of choosing to take her children to protests and rallies in support of social issues like women’s rights. “I feel like it’s such a time now that there’s so much chaos and unrest, it’s very difficult to protect them from that.”

Alyssa and David welcomed their first child together, Milo Thomas, on August 31, 2011. The boy weighed 7 pounds and was 19 inches long, according to a statement to Access to Hollywood.
While she was pregnant, she told PEOPLE that Milo was already a very active child, constantly moving around her belly during the ultrasound.
“Watching him switch from one side to the other is quite bizarre – but it makes me giggle,” she said. “Every time I go for an ultrasound, he does really funny things like sucking his thumb or elbowing me.”
Years later, Milo maintained his active energy, channeling it into sports like football and baseball, even earning a championship ring for his league in the latter.
In June 2023, he graduated from elementary school, which left Alyssa feeling “emotional” at the milestone.
“You love them so much,” she captioned a series of pictures from Milo’s graduation ceremony. “And nurture and guide and feed, push and nurture. And all that emotion – that fire in your belly – is to finally let them fly. Hold them so close – to let them go!”
She added: “It’s hard. It’s hard to be a parent. To love people so much, so completely, it’s scary. There’s nothing I want more than for them to be healthy and happy.”
Months later, Alyssa received criticism when she posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) asking for donations for her son’s baseball team to travel from California to New York. People also left comments on Milo’s Instagram page, with one pointing out that Alyssa has more money than the average person.
Milo responded to the comment, saying he loves his mom and everything she does for people, noting her young age.
“You understand I’m only 12 years old and I love my mom. My mom is the greatest human ever. She does everything for everyone,” he wrote.
The actress recorded some of the comments and published them on her own Instagram, pointing out that it was inappropriate for people to leave hate on her son’s page and explaining why she could not pay for the entire trip herself.
“Every parent raises money for their child’s sports teams, and many of them do it through GoFundMe. I’m no different,” she wrote. “As much as I would love to pay the entire team and their families for travel, transportation, hotel, food and drink, uniforms, replacement badges and everything that teams do for this type of trip – I can’t afford it. Maybe one day.”
“Also, if I paid for everything—my trolls would find something else to be hurt about. Regardless of what you think of me, to go on my hard-working 12-year-old son’s Instagram page and leave messages like this is so horrible,” she continued. is an actress. “Leave the children alone. Let them play baseball.”

Alyssa and David’s second child, Elizabella Dylan, who goes by Bella, was born on September 4, 2014 — a date her mom pre-selected for a very special reason.
In November 2021, Alyssa shared to PEOPLE’s I’m becoming a mom podcast that she wasn’t supposed to go into labor with Bella, but for a scheduled caesarean section. However, the baby girl arrived five weeks earlier than planned.
“My doctor, who I love so much, said to me, ‘I think we’re going to take her. The question is should we go — it was like 11:30 at night — or should we wait until after midnight?'” Alyssa said. “And [my best friend] Alaa looked at whose birthdays were the 3rd and 4th. And he said, ‘Beyoncé’s birthday is the 4th! Wait until after midnight.’ ”
“So we chose her birthday,” she continued. “We had a choice between September 3rd and 4th and since Beyoncé’s birthday is the 4th, Alaa is like, ‘Yeah! We’re in. The 4th.’ ”
Bella was born at 7 lbs., 7 oz. and was 19 ½ inches long, Alyssa’s rep told PEOPLE.
“Mom and baby are doing great,” the rep said in a statement.
Bella seems to have inherited her mother’s love of acting, starring in several local theater productions such as The little mermaid and The Wizard of Oz. However, Enchanted the alum still isn’t ready for her daughter to see her work.
“They didn’t see Enchanted for many reasons,” Alyssa said on TikTok in March 2022. “One of them is that I kiss a lot of guys on Enchanted. So many guys who aren’t their dad. So many guys. So no.”
She also added that she wouldn’t let Bella watch the show for fear she would want to dress the same way as her – and that she would be her harshest critic.
“I let Bell watch the trailer for insolent ’cause apparently I didn’t let her watch the movie,” Alyssa said. “She said, ‘Mom, I could tell you were faking that kiss.’ I think she called me a bad actress.”
She continued: “The other reason is that she’s seven years old and all she wants to wear are abs. That’s without seeing Enchanted … And I keep thinking: ‘No, you don’t want to wear a tummy tuck’. Well can you imagine after she saw Enchanted when she says, ‘Mom you wore abs.’ ”
While she may not be involved in her mom’s acting business, she supports Alyssa at events like Hollywood Post 43’s 2023 Commander’s Ball in August 2023. The mother-daughter duo also have cute moments together, from watching Barbie film to participate in Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in August 2023.
