Amulya Leona is a social activist who came into the limelight for shouting slogans of “Long Live Pakistan” during the anti-CAA protest on February 20, 2020 in Bengaluru.

Amulya Leona was born on 31 July 2000 (19 years old in 2019) in Koppa, Karnataka. Her zodiac sign is Leo. She attended St. Joseph’s School in Koppa, Karnataka from lower kindergarten to fourth grade. She then joined Manipal Christian School, where she completed fifth and sixth grades. She completed seventh and eighth grades at St. Nobel CBSE School, Karnataka. Later, she joined Sadvidya Comosite Matriculation College, Karnataka. In 2018, she joined NMKRV College for Women, Karnataka to pursue a degree in English, Journalism and Psychology. In 2019, she started working as a translator at a record company in Bangalore.

She was born into a Hindu family. She lives with her family in Saragodu, Chikmagalur, Karnataka. Her father Vaji Noronha is the president of Hariharapura JD (s) in Hubli. Her mother’s name is Laveena Nohara.

On February 20, 2020, she raised a huge controversy by shouting pro-Pakistan slogans (Long live Pakistan!) at an anti-CAA rally organized by the All India Muslim Majlis (AIMIM) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and two other men rushed forward to stop her from shouting such slogans. She continued to shout and then started shouting Hindustan Long Live. Local police at the protest site stopped her and snatched her microphone. Later, the local police filed a case against her under Section 124 A (sedition) and Section 153 A and B (promoting hostility) of the Indian Penal Code. She was sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody.

  • In December 2019, Amulya started protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019. She used social media sites, including the dating app Tinder, to share her views against the CAA.

  • On February 16, 2020, she posted on her Facebook account, “Long live India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and all other countries.”
  • On February 21, 2020, after Amulya, another girl named Arudra was detained for holding a slogan that read “Dalit Liberation, Kashmir Liberation, Muslim Liberation” (in Kannada).
  • Amulya’s father was very unhappy with Amulya’s pro-Pakistan slogans. In an interview, he said:

Her behavior is inexcusable and I will not try to get her bail. But I don’t know my instincts as a father. She has hurt me. I had asked her to refrain from making inflammatory statements but she did not listen. I told her that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers hold high positions and she should respect their positions and age.”

  • On February 22, 2020, Sanjeev Maradi, an activist from the right-wing organization Sri Ram Sena, announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for Amulya. He released a video in which he said:

Neither the state nor the central government should release her in any way. If she is released, we will kill her in a fight. We on behalf of Sri Ram Sena will pay a bounty of Rs 10 lakh to whoever kills her.”
