Maryam Khalil walked into her office at Forman Christian College one morning and saw one of the most amazing things she had ever seen.
Khalil told The Dodo: “I saw a lovely owl near my desk.” “One of my colleagues held it in his hand. It was the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen in the office.”
The newborn owl has gray and brown fur and large bright eyes. Khalil had seen many birds throughout the day and night walking around the campus, but she had never come close to one.
During a downpour, a small owl fell out of a nearby nest and Khalil’s colleague grabbed it and brought it inside to dry. Since it was summer and the air conditioner at work was running, they covered the baby bird with a nice towel to keep warm.
The little owl quickly became the talk of the workplace and people forgot about work. Despite the uproar, the owl seemed completely calm.
Khalil explained: “When it started to look with my beautiful eyes, I put it in a box on my lap. “He goes to bed for a while and we feed him during the day.”
At the end of the workday, Khalil and her colleagues discovered the owl’s nest and returned it to its mother.
Khalil hadn’t seen any wild animals in his office for two years, until an adult owl surprised everyone by flying into the lecture hall during an evening seminar. There was something about this owl that reminded her of someone she knew.
“This isn’t a baby owl, but it’s adorable when it winks at us,” explains Khalil.
