Anand Kumar was born on 1 January 1973 in Patna, Bihar (50 years; as of 2023). Since he came from a middle-class family, he was sent only to public schools. To stimulate his interest in mathematics, he founded a club called Ramanujan Math Academy. He rose to fame in 2009 when his show Super-30 aired on the Discovery Channel.
Although government and non-governmental organizations provide financial assistance to his project, he still operates alone.
Family & Children
Born into a middle-class Hindu family, Anand Kumar lived an ordinary life before becoming famous with Super 30. Not much is known about his father except that he was a clerk in the Indian Postal Service. In addition, his mother’s name is Jayanti Devi, who once made Papad; as a source of income after her husband’s death. He has a younger brother, Pranav Kumar, who is a violinist. His wife is Ritu Kumar, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee. The couple has a son named Jagat Kumar.
Profession
After his father passed away, he saw his mother working hard and gave her the papad she had made before. But to continue his interest in mathematics, he opened a tutoring center next to the club he founded in 1992. He helps deserving students prepare themselves for cracking competitive exams at real cost. As a result, the number of students grew to nearly 500 in just three years. Subsequently, his project called Super-30 began in 2002. The project will initially provide assistance to 30 financially needy students to prepare for IIT-JEE without any charges. In addition to free tutoring, free room and board are also provided. Basically, he had realized his dream of taking education to a revolutionary level of success.
Awards and recognition

- Soon after becoming famous, he appeared in a documentary hosted by Miss Japan Fujiwara Norika, who interviewed him all the way to Patna.
- He was awarded the Ramanujan Prize in Mathematics at the 8th National Mathematics Congress in Rajkot. He also received the S. Ramanujan Award in Mathematics from IRDS.
- He has published a biography titled “Super 30” based on his life, written by Biju Mathew and reported by journalist Arun Kumar. In this book, he is hailed as the spokesperson of Bihar.

In 2018, he was accused of making up false stories to gain popularity; some of his students claimed he was a liar. According to them, Anand exaggerated the success statistics of his coaching centre, saying that 26 out of 30 students passed the IIT-JEE exam in 2018. But the fact is that only 3 students from Super-30 were able to pass the exam. The students also alleged that Anand sent them to another coaching institute called Ramanujam Mathematics Class when they tried to take admission in his coaching centre. The student trusted Anand and joined Ramanujam Mathematics class and even paid hefty fees and offered handsome remuneration so that he could get the money back later but they never got the money back. Anand, however, dismissed all such accusations and termed them as an attempt to damage the reputation of Super-30. In November 2019, he was directed to appear before the Gauhati High Court on November 28, besides paying Rs. $50,000 in restitution to the guardians and students who brought the charges against him.

- In 2023, he received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award.
- On February 7, 2024, he received the UAE Golden Visa. The honor was bestowed upon him by the Dubai government.
