Grande, 31, and Erivo, 37, shared an emotional moment as they talked about the themes of friendship in the new movie musical in a video shared by the Australian television series ProjectInterviewer Georgie Tunny’s Instagram page on Monday 4th November.
In the video, Tunny said Wicked stars that a close friend’s young daughters had already seen the film and “ended up saying ‘You have to be good and you have to be kind to everyone, and she’s a good witch,'” while discussing the film.
“Yeah. That’s the message,” Grande said, to which Tunny added, “You know what I mean? It’s that impact.”
Erivo became visibly emotional as she and Grande held hands, and Grande began reaching for Erivo’s face to wipe away tears. “If the kids can feel it, then…” Erivo began, leaving Grande to declare, “That’s the point.”

Erivo and Grande costar in Wickedthe first of a two-part adaptation of the popular Broadway play, starring the Ozian witches Elphaba and Glinda, who were portrayed as enemies in the 1939 classic. The Wizard of Oz. Similar to the Broadway production, the film serves as a prequel that depicts the characters’ friendship at an early age and the eventual conflict that separates them.
Grande continued to slap Erivo across the face to wipe away tears as examiner Tunny asked them about their thoughts on “the power of friendship and the power of virginity.”
“I don’t think we can share that enough. I don’t think we should talk about it that much,” Erivo replied,” as Grande wiped the last tears from her eyes. “I don’t think we have time to talk about our friendships and how important they are to us. And they are important. Sometimes they shape us.”

Apart from Eriv and Grande, WickedThe big screen cast includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Ethan Slater as Boq, Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Terrible.
Jon M. Chu, who previously directed the 2021 film adaptation of the film In the Heightsadapted the musical for the big screen. The musical is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, which in turn was inspired by L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels (and the Judy Garland film from 1939 The Wizard of Oz).
Wicked: Part One in cinemas on 22.11. The second part is scheduled for November 26, 2025.
