Ashneer Grover was born on Monday, June 14, 1982, in Delhi, India (age 41; as of 2023). He grew up in Delhi. Ashnir completed his schooling in Delhi and then pursued a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. During his graduation, Ashniel was one of the six students selected by IIT Delhi as an exchange student at the Ecole Nationale des Applied Sciences de Lyon, France. In 2002, he moved to France with a scholarship of Rs. 5 Lakhs from the French Embassy. In 2004, Ashneer enrolled in the Finance MBA program at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. In 2006, through a campus placement at IIM Ahemdabad, Ashneer was appointed as Vice President, Investment Banking, Kotak, Mumbai. In 2013, he joined the multinational company American Express as a director and served for two years. He joined Grofers in 2015 as chief financial officer and worked there for several years. After all these experiences he wanted to do something different, he met various investors and started building a network, then he joined PC Jewelers as a Business Director to help them grow their business and payment options. The idea for BharatPe came to him while he was working at PC Jewellers. Ashneer launched BharatPe in 2018 along with Shashvat Nakrani and Bhavik Koladiya and it is the most used payment app today.

BharatPe is headquartered in New Delhi, India. According to Ashneer, he started BharatPe with 6 employees. The brand ambassador of BharatPe is Salman Khan.
BharatPe is India’s first UPI interoperable QR code, has the first zero MDR payment acceptance service and the first UPI payment enabled merchant cash advance service. BharatPe aims to provide merchants with an end-to-end financial services platform.
Acting as a judge on Shark Tank India
In 2021, Ashneer Grover served as a judge on the popular Indian reality show Shark Tank India. In this show, people pitch their startups and ask the judges to invest in their businesses. Ashneer joined the show as one of the investors.

In 2020, companies such as Paytm filed a lawsuit against Mr Grover and his company BharatPe for distributing pamphlets, claiming that Paytm and others were not purely Indian companies. They also asked the Reserve Bank of India to take action against BharatPe.
Fight the suffix battle with PhonePe
In 2021, PhonePe filed a case against BharatPe, claiming trademark rights over the suffix and seeking speedy disposal of the main suit.
Viral insult audio clip
In January 2022, an audio clip went viral in which Mr Grover had a heated fight with Kotak Mahindra Bank. The bank claims Mr Grover and his wife threatened one of their staff. Mr Grover later tweeted that the audio clip was fake. He said,
“Guys. Chills. This is a fake audio of some scammer trying to extort funds ($240,000 in Bitcoin). I refuse to take the deduction. I have more character and, there are enough scammers on the internet already.”
Mr. Grover reportedly asked the bank to give him Rs. Nykaa needed Rs 500 crore before launching the IPO, but banks refused to provide him with the funds. Days after the audio clip went viral, Mr Grover went on leave until the end of March 2022, and the company subsequently released a statement which read:
“At this time, the board has accepted Ashneer’s decision, which we believe is in the ‘best interests of the company, our employees and investors, and the millions of merchants we support every day.'”
Resigned from BharatPe
On March 1, 2022, he resigned as Managing Director of BharatPe. He reportedly made the move shortly after receiving an agenda for an upcoming board meeting, which should include consideration of action against him, according to a report submitted by consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
FIR fraud case
On May 10, 2023, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police registered a case against Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain Grover and family members Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain and Shwetank Jain following a complaint filed by BharatPe. rupee. In December 2022, the amount of fraud amounted to Rs 81 crore. In September 2023, Ashneer Grover found himself facing a defamation suit for his remarks during a central government inquiry regarding Indore’s designation as India’s cleanest city. At one event, he said the recognition was “bought.” The case was filed under Sections 499 and 500 (defamation and punishment thereof) of the Indian Penal Code. However, Ashnir later issued a statement to X in which he did not apologize for his remarks. He explained that his remarks were made during a light-hearted conversation comparing Bhopal and Indore.
