Austin Butler flies in his latest role on Apple TV+ Lords of the air.
According to the show’s official synopsis, the historical drama follows “the men of the 100th Bomb Group,” also known as the “Bloody Hundred,” as they carry out “dangerous bombing raids” on Nazi Germany during World War II. The men face horrific conditions, including freezing temperatures and lack of oxygen, as they relive the horrors of war.
The series, led by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, depicts “the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horrors of Hitler’s Third Reich.”
Filmed in locations ranging from the idyllic rolling hills of southeast England to the “severe deprivations of a German POW camp,” many soldiers were shot down, captured, wounded, and “some were lucky enough to make it home.”

Austin Butler says he doesn’t think he still talks like Elvis, but ‘I’m sure there’s a bit of him in my DNA’
The teaser begins with the sounds of distant gunfire and bombs. Butler, who takes on the role of Major Gale Cleven aka Buck, says with awe in his voice: “When you’re watching it and not paying attention to what’s really going on, it’s kind of beautiful.”
Like the twisted shapes of fireworks, Buck and his regime watch as smoke, bullets and impact flashes light up the night sky.
The scene shifts to a shot of fighter pilots training for war, as soldiers load their planes and take to the skies, Major Crosby (Anthony Boyle) recites: “We have come from all corners of the earth with a common goal: to bring war to Hitler’s doorstep.”

“These daily missions,” sighs Buck as scenes of soldiers running for shelters, loading missiles and dodging fire in the sky are shown. “They are suicides.”
“So what’s the move?” Major John Egan (Callum Turner) asks, to which Buck replies, “We’re leading our guys through it.”
The teaser shows flashes of the plane falling and howling soldiers. Another scene shows a man carrying a woman from a building turned into rubble. While the men are laughing and hugging each other in a friendly way, more of them are running away from the bombs and bullets.
