Avery Pohl Officially Exits General Hospital After Character’s Probable Death

Avery Pohl is gone General Hospital.

A spokesperson for the ABC drama confirmed for Soap opera summary that Pohl’s last episode aired on Wednesday. PEOPLE has contacted ABC for additional comment.

In the episode, Pohl’s character Esme met a watery grave after trying to kill two others on a yacht. Esme injected her ex Spencer with a cocktail of drugs in an attempt to kill him. Then she turned to his girlfriend Trina.

But Spencer took the opportunity to fight off Esme. In a fateful turn of events, both Spencer and Esme fell into the sea and were presumed dead when the episode ended.

Pohl knew that audiences didn’t always take well to her vengeful character – as she often took on the role of the villain. “At the end of the day, my job is to help tell a story and entertain people, and if people are entertained by the fact that they love to hate me, then I guess my job is done!” she said earlier Soap opera summary.

Behind the scenes, however, Pohl developed a strong friendship with Tabyana Ali – who plays Trina, the woman Esme tried to kill. “We often talk and hang out, but I hate that I won’t see her at work. I will still call her every day, but I will miss seeing her at work,” Ali told the publication. But Pohla’s last day on set was one of praise from her co-stars. “The day Avery left was a day full of tears. We all gave her hugs and flowers and gifts. It was a bittersweet thing.”
