Benedict Cumberbatch Narrates Trailer for Wes Anderson’s Short Film ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’

Wes Anderson returns to the written works of Roald Dahl for his latest film.

Fresh edition for June Asteroid CityOn Thursday, Netflix released the official trailer for the latest project from the 54-year-old Anderson The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. The film, which lasts only 39 minutes, is adapted from the 1977 short story of the same name by the late British author.

Benedict Cumberbatch marks his first appearance in an Anderson film as the title character. In the trailer, Henry breaks the fourth wall and tells his own story as Henry, described as a single, wealthy 41-year-old who discovers a book titled Report on Imdad Khan: The Man Who Sees Without Eyes.

Sir Ben Kingsley appears as a man who claims to see without using his eyes, while Dev Patel also appears in the trailer.

The film follows “a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes, then sets out to master the skill to cheat at gambling,” according to the official Netflix log for the film.

Anderson previously adapted Dahl in the 2009 animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox. The original novella appears in a collection of short stories under the title A wonderful story about Henry Sugar and six others.

The film is one of a number of projects on Netflix based on Dahl’s books and stories following the streaming company’s acquisition of the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021. It also comes three months before the release of the Warner Bros. Pictures Wonkastarring Timothée Chalamet as the iconic character from Dahl’s book Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Netflix will also release three more adaptations of Dahl’s short stories — Swan, Poison and Ratcatcher – made by Anderson in the following days The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugarliberation.

In addition to Cumberbatch, Kingsley and Patel, the new film also features performances from Anderson’s frequent collaborator Ralph Fiennes and Richard Ayoade.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar begins streaming on Netlix on September 27.
