At the end Black doves In the first season, Helen learns that Trent Clark (Angus Cooper), the son of London crime boss Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman), is responsible for the murder of Jason (who was secretly an M15 agent investigating Helen).
Trent ordered the hit to cover up the accidental killing of his girlfriend’s father, Chinese Ambassador Chen (Andy Cheung). All of this comes to light in one of the final scenes where Sam, Helen and the infamous Clark family come face to face in an abandoned building.
Helen is furious and ready to kill Trent on the spot, but in a turn of events, Sam kills Alex, his wife and Trent – all within seconds.
“He does it because he loves it [Helen] both because he owes her and because he’s trying to protect her from the burden of killing that kid,” Barton told Tudum about the show’s dramatic ending.

Trent hired hitman Elmore Fitch (Paapa Essiedu) to kill Jason.
This was after he learned that Jason, along with jeweler Maggie (Hannah Khalique-Brown) and tabloid journalist Phillip (Thomas Coombes), had a video of him killing the Chinese ambassador Chen.
Desperate not to get caught, Trent ordered Fitch to eliminate all three men.
While talking to Tuduma, Barton said that Trent wasn’t always the one they had in mind as Chen’s killer. “There was a different revelation about who killed the Chinese ambassador that we recorded and didn’t end up using,” he said.
In alternate versions of the script, Agent Perryman (Adam Best), an Irish MI5 agent, was responsible.

Sam has a lot to consider in the end Black doves season 1 After killing three members of the Clark family, Sam realizes he has a target on his back. He can escape or join forces with Hector Newman (Luther Ford), a member of another crime family and someone Sam spared when he was a small boy.
It’s unclear what Sam’s decision is, but he’s come to terms with the fact that it’s too dangerous to be with the love of his life, Michaela (Omari Douglas).
“Repercussions [of his and Helen’s job] is that it robs them of a little bit of happiness or freedom,” Barton told Tudum.

That, Black doves has been renewed for a second season. The announcement was made at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August 2024, according to Tudum.
Barton would like to see Helen “get deeper into the spy world because she was so close to leaving,” he told the news outlet. He also imagines the dangers for Helen and her family that will stir with Wallace as prime minister.
“I just see the tension of it, seeing Sam back in London … I’d like to see more of Eleanor and Williams, Kai-Ming, all those people,” Barton added. “I’d like to start pitting them against each other again, and maybe make things more dangerous and challenging for them.”
As for whether the second season will pick up again over Christmas, viewers will have to wait and see.
“It’s all about when it’s released. It doesn’t have to be limited to the Christmas holidays,” the creator said Diversity.
Barton continued, “There’s a part of me that would say, ‘Yeah, we always do that at Christmas!’ But it was also maddening that we were stuck in a perpetual state of Christmas for six or seven months, I mean, listening to ‘Good King Wenceslas’ in July. And I don’t know if you want to put people through that again.”
