Blake Shelton Shares He’s Hoping to ‘Cut Back or Stop Drinking Altogether’ in the New Year

Blake Shelton is making a healthy commitment to 2024.

In an interview with Party tonight released Thursday, the country star, 47, shared that a New Year’s resolution he failed to keep in previous years was to cut back on his drinking. But he hopes 2024 will be his year.

“I haven’t been able to stop drinking yet,” Shelton said. “Even cutting back was hard. I mean, it’s still a resolution. And I’m going to say it again now—that’s my New Year’s resolution. To quit or go back or quit drinking altogether. Let’s just say I said it.”

As for what he and wife Gwen Stefani have planned for this New Year’s Eve, the ex Vote said the coach ET to plan an early night.

“If we’re home on New Year’s Eve, we’ll probably go to bed before that even happens,” he said.

Stefani and Shelton tied the knot on July 3, 2021, at Shelton’s ranch in Oklahoma, with Stefani’s three sons — Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9 — in attendance. Stefani shares her boys with her ex-husband, musician Gavin Rossdale.

Last month, the country star opened up about some of the challenging aspects of being a stepfather.

“I had my eyes on it,” Shelton said. “I think it’s, in a way, harder, harder. I try to be careful when to step back and be smart when to step back and just talk, but no matter what, I’m always there if I’m needed,” he said TODAY.

Speaking with PEOPLE last December, Shelton opened up about prioritizing family over career.

“If I leave my career at this point, the only thing I risk is regretting that I miss out on some more important things in life. For now, it’s our children. It’s not about me anymore and it never will be,” he said.

“Even though I started alone, I take this job very seriously. The children see me as a very important person in their lives,” he continued. “[When they ask,] ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take these things to heart. I’ve made a lot of money, but time can’t be turned back. I don’t want regrets.”
