Blake Shelton’s Siblings: All About His Sister and Late Brother

Blake Shelton comes from a large family of “entertainers” and that includes his siblings: older sister Endy and late brother Richie.

Vote the alum is the youngest of the three. His older brother, Richie Shelton, was the only son from the first marriage of Blake’s mother, Dorothy Ann Shackleford. Dorothy Ann would later marry Dick Shelton and have two children, daughter Endy Shelton Intrieri and Blake.

The “Anywhere with You” singer looked up to his older brother, who tragically died in a car accident in 1990, when Blake was just 14 years old. After Richie’s death, Blake’s father gave him some tough advice that he took to heart.

“He said, ‘Look, you’re never, ever going to get over what’s going on, you’re just going to have to learn to get used to it,'” the Grammy nominee said 60 minutes. “He was absolutely right.”

Blake is close with his sister, Endy, who lives in Oklahoma with her husband, Mike Intrieri, and their two children, son Ryan and daughter Jace. Although Blake may be a household name, he said Cowboys & Indians that it comes from good people who worked hard and “had a lot of fun”.

“My family, as if they are entertainers. Every one of them,” he said. “They are so funny and so much fun to be around. I know that’s where I gained a sense of humor and the ability to be an entertainer and not take myself so seriously. No one in my family takes themselves seriously.”

Blake has two older siblings

Born June 18, 1976 in Ada, Oklahoma, Blake is the younger child of Dorothy Ann (née Bristol) Shackleford and US Army veteran and car salesman Richard Lee “Dick” Shelton, who passed away in 2012.

Dorothy had one son from her first marriage to Ronnie Musgrove, Richie Don Shelton, born July 6, 1966. She and Dick Shelton had two children, a daughter, Endy Shelton Intrieri, born in 1972, and Blake.

“My dad, when he married my mom — my mom had a baby, my brother, Richie,” Blake said at the Country Radio 2022 seminar, according to ABC News. “And he took Richie and raised him from the time he was a year old, and my brother never thought of my dad as his father.”

Blake said that Dorothy Ann and Dick would later divorce. Both remarried, and Dick was stepfather to his new wife’s children, giving Blake a role model when he married Gwen Stefani, who has three sons with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.

Richie died when Blake was 14 years old

Richie died in a car accident on November 13, 1990 in Oklahoma. He was 24 years old.

Blake said Cowboys & Indians 2018. that he never got over his brother’s death.

“My brother was my big brother. I mean, I wanted to be him,” he explained. “I wanted to look like him, dress like him, listen to what he listened to and do the things he does. So when he died in a car accident, it was literally like the world went silent. Suddenly there was a void in my world, and I still haven’t gotten over it. I’m just used to it.”

Over the years, Blake has paid tribute to his late sibling on the anniversary of Richie’s death.

“I lost my brother 27 years ago today,” he said chirped in 2017 “I was only 14 at the time but it changed my life forever… It made me realize that life is precious and there’s no time like RIGHT NOW… We still miss you Richie!”

Two years ago he tweeted: “Wow… 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton. He is still my hero getting strong. I wish everyone could have met him.”

Blake also mentioned his brother in a season 23 episode Voteby a contestant named Noivas, he spoke about losing his brother at the age of 21.

“My brother, if he was around, he’d go crazy if he knew what I did,” Shelton told Noivas, according to Party tonight. “He was just a big fan of music. You could hear him coming six blocks away, the stereo blaring from his truck.”

Blake got his love for music from Richie

The “God’s Country” singer grew up listening to his brother play some of the biggest names in country and rock, which greatly influenced Blake’s taste in music.

“His bedroom was right across from mine when I was little,” Blake said 60 minutes 2014. “And he was listening to Hank Williams, Jr. or Waylon or Lynyrd Skynyrd or Bob Seeger. I just, whatever was really popular, Richie loved all the music. And I’d be sitting there going, ‘Man, that that guy is my hero. That’s the coolest guy. He’s my big brother.’ ”

During the interview, Blake shared how difficult it was to deal with the reality of grief after losing Richie.

“I remember picking up the phone to call him a week after he died to tell him something,” he recalled. “It was like the fact that he was dead kept shocking me.”

Endy and her children hang out with Blake and Gwen in Oklahoma

Blake and Gwen are known to spend as much time as possible at the country singer’s ranch in Oklahoma. The extended Shelton clan, including Andy’s family, visit regularly.

“It’s very tribal,” Gwen said Marie Claire 2017. “Blake has a sister, she’s coming with her kids. We cook and get muddy and dirty. There are ATVs. Being a mother of three boys, it’s the perfect place.”

Endy and her husband Mike Intrieri have two children, son Ryan Intrieri and daughter Jace Intrieri.

Blake and Endy also visit outside of Oklahoma, including big name events. Back in 2016, the Intrieri family joined Blake at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Blake dedicated his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to Richie

Blake received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2023.

Not just his Vote peers — including Gwen, Adam Levine and Carson Daly — shared kind words about Blake during the ceremony, the country music star was also joined in Los Angeles by his immediate family.

In attendance were Endy and her husband Mike, their two children and Blake’s mother Dorothy. During his speech at the ceremony, Blake thanked them for coming from Oklahoma for him and then paid tribute to his late brother. He said that earlier in the day he was thinking about what he wanted to say on stage, and his mum said: “I wish Richie could have been here to see this and everything you’ve done.”

“And I feel like that’s probably the best way to end this. … I dedicate my star on this Walk of Fame to my brother, Richie,” Blake shared with the crowd.

Miranda Lambert’s song “Over You” is about Richie and was co-written by Blake

Blake wrote a song about Richie’s death with his second wife, singer Miranda Lambert.

Titled “Over You”, the song was the second single from Miranda’s 2011 album. Four the Record, and won a CMA Award and an ACM Award, both for Song of the Year. The song was later covered by Blake’s Vote mentor, season three winner Cassadee Pope.

Endy once talked Blake into taking breakdancing lessons

Blake and Endy caught the dance bug when they were kids – the breakdancing bug, that is.

During the performance at The Kelly Clarkson ShowBlake said to his friend and colleague Vote estimate that when he was a child in Ada, Oklahoma, he was intrigued by a newspaper ad advertising dance lessons with the woman who taught Michael Jackson.

“My sister, Endy, and I said, ‘Hey, man, I’m going if you’re going. Like, let’s go. Do you want to go?’ ” Blake recalled to Kelly.

The “Sangria” singer only took one lesson, but it was enough to earn him the childhood nickname “Break It Down Blake.”

Now the Shelton siblings are adults, and Endy is just as supportive of his brother, sharing his accomplishments on social media and visiting him on set Vote during Blake’s stint on the NBC music competition show.

Endy also knows how to joke around with his little brother. In honor of Mother’s Day 2020, Endy shared a picture of herself with Blake and their mom in a sunny outdoor location, sad that they couldn’t hug each other due to social distancing in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Thank you for being my best friend 🥰”, wrote Endy on Instagram. “Thank you for loving me and my weird brother 😍.”

Gwen helped Blake bond with his sister and mom

When Blake married Gwen in July 2021, he joined the close-knit Stefani clan. But what he didn’t expect was that his wife would help him become closer to his own family.

“She hugs them all,” he said, “and I’ve never experienced that with anyone, because it’s a lot to take in, and Gwen is family first.”
