There were blood-curdling screams as two “XL Bully” dogs tore a man to death as he tried to protect his elderly mother.

But the 52-year-old suffered catastrophic injuries and tragically died later in hospital.
Nursery nurse Amanda Ward said her daughter Amy, 20, heard a scream before she went to investigate.
The 55-year-old added: “In the end, some brave locals used rubbish bins to separate the dogs from the man and tied one dog’s legs.
“The other dog is back in his apartment.”
Another local claims the hellhounds jumped out of a neighbour’s window before jumping over the hedge.

They added: “[They] appeared in the garden of an elderly lady. Her son came out to protect her.
“We think the dogs were home alone as there were no cars outside at the time.”
Neighbor Matt, 43, said Ian was a “lovely guy”, adding: “We were both Aston Villa fans and we were chatting over the garden fence.
“My wife told me this on the phone. She called the police when she heard the scream.
“I’m still in shock about what happened and I have a lot of anger in me because this shouldn’t have happened.
– It could have been me or my wife or any of us in the village.
The police announced today that one of the mutts died after being restrained, and the other was killed by a veterinarian.
Amidst the horrific scenes, the nearby St Peter’s Primary Academy was closed and children were banned from going out “for safety reasons”.
A man in his thirties was initially arrested on suspicion of having the dogs dangerously out of control before he was re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
Rishi Sunak said today that XL Bully dogs will be banned by the end of the year to stop violent attacks.
Announcing the suspension, he said in a statement: “It is clear that this is not a handful of poorly trained dogs, this is a pattern of behavior and this cannot continue.”
Chief Constable Tracy Meir, from Staffordshire Police, said: “I would like to extend my condolences to the loved ones of the man who tragically lost his life in this horrific dog attack.
“We continue to support them at this incredibly difficult time.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate and we have taken statements, viewed CCTV and carried out house-to-house inquiries in the local area, but we are keen to speak to anyone with information.”
