The Brazilian influencer and reality TV star died at the age of 29 after liposuction surgery.
According to local media outlet Globo 1, Luana Andrade died on Tuesday in a São Paulo hospital after an “aesthetic procedure”.
Media reported that about two and a half hours after surgery at São Luiz Hospital on Monday, Andrade went into cardiac arrest and was taken to intensive care, but died on Tuesday morning.
“The patient Luana Andrade was admitted accompanied by her family on Monday afternoon to the liposuction department performed by a private surgeon and an anesthesiologist hired by the family,” the hospital announced to Globo 1.
“About two and a half hours into the operation, the patient had sudden respiratory distress and cardiac arrest, and the team immediately resuscitated him.”

The statement continued, “The surgery was aborted, and the patient underwent tests that revealed a massive thrombosis. She was transferred to the ICU, where she underwent medication and hemodynamic management.”
“Despite the best efforts of the hospital team, she made poor progress and died around 5:30am today. [Tuesday]. The cause of death was a massive pulmonary embolism.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, a pulmonary embolism is “a blood clot that blocks and stops the flow of blood to an artery in the lungs. In most cases, a blood clot starts in a deep vein in the leg and travels to the lungs.”
As reported by Globo 1, Andrade’s vigil was held on Wednesday at Valle dos Reis Cemetery in São Paulo.

Andrade, who had 558,000 followers on Instagram, was best known for starring in the sixth season of the Brazilian reality show A power couple with her boyfriend João Hadad, on the way out.
After her death, Hadad paid a heartbreaking tribute to his girlfriend of two years on social media.
“I am torn and living my worst nightmare. A part of me is gone,” Hadad shared on Instagram via translation alongside a black-and-white photo of the couple walking hand-in-hand in Paris.

“It is with great regret and a lot of pain in my heart that I say goodbye to my Luana, my princess, my beauty…” he continued. “It’s hard to understand God’s plans today and I don’t know when or if I will ever process your absence from my life and the lives of the legions of people who loved your presence.”
“You are my princess of the sun. Please continue to watch over me and all of us from above. I will love you always and forever!” added Hadad to his 935,000 followers, ending his touching tribute with the words: “I love you, I love you, I love you…”
