Bret Michaels’ 2 Daughters: All About Raine and Jorja

Bret Michaels has been through a lot in recent years, but one constant has been his daughters, Raine Elizabeth Michaels and Jorja Bleu Michaels.

In 2010, the Poison musician suffered a brain hemorrhage that could have killed him. His doctor said at the time that Bret was one of the “10 to 20 percent” of people who experienced the bleeding he did, but was expected to make a full recovery. The following year, Bret again went through a difficult medical situation when he had to have surgery to repair a hole in his heart.

Through his health issues, Bret said it was his daughters who kept him fighting. In 2011, he was interviewed by Raine and Jorja – who were then 11 and 6 years old respectively – for The Red Book magazine.

When asked by Raine how his health scare affected him, he replied: “When the doctors said there was little chance of things turning out well for me, all I could think about was you and Jorja and your mum, and that can’t make it see you girls getting married — that made me fight. You two saved my life spiritually.” He jokingly added, “Besides, I didn’t want your mom to meet a nicer new dad!”

Bret and his longtime partner, Kristi Lynn Gibson, welcomed Raine and Jorja in 2000 and 2005, respectively. Both parents also often announce that they are proud of their daughters.

Bret and Gibson welcomed their first child, Raine Elizabeth Michaels, on May 20, 2000, in Los Angeles, as reported by MTV. Bret said in a statement, according to the newspaper: “Her birth was amazing. Being in the room when Raine was born was as close as I would get to heaven without dying. She has beautiful blue eyes, big fat pouty lips and lots of big hair. A piece of the old block.”

In an interview with The Red Book, Bret talked about his girlfriends being on tour with him and said that Raine liked to stay up late. “I’ll wake up, and you’ll be sitting with the Rat.” [the bus driver] talk about life and watch the world go by. “My oldest daughter Raine works hard and is a good, humble soul,” Bret told PEOPLE at the time. “She was very excited to be involved in Sports Illustrated. He is studying sports journalism and broadcasting at the university. Raine knows all the girls have worked hard to get there and is grateful to be in the top six!”

Recently, Bret shared posts on social media revealing that his older daughter is working as a sports reporter, including appearing on ESPN+.

Bret and Gibson welcomed their second daughter, Jorja Bleu Michaels, on May 5, 2005. Speaking about their daughters’ names with PEOPLE in 2010, Michaels said he had to “give a lot of credit to their mom.” Of Jorja’s middle name, Bleu, he added: “We threw in a bit of French. A little culture.”

Jorja was a big fan of her dad as a child. She herself told PEOPLE at the age of 4: “Dad is a rock star! He is my hero.”

Bret’s younger daughter shares his passion for music. In an interview with In Kansas City In 2019, he shared: “My youngest daughter Jorja Bleu goes to art and music school and wrote the new single ‘Unbroken’ with me. It was an amazing bonding experience.”
