Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia has accused her ex-boyfriend Zach Bryan of emotional abuse while they were together.
LaPaglia, 25, made the allegations on The BFFs Podcast she co-hosted with Dave Portnoy and Josh Richards on Thursday, Nov. 7, opening up about her relationship with Bryan, 29, for the first time since the country star announced their split on Oct. 22.
Representatives for LaPaglia and Bryan did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
“The last year of my life has been the hardest year of my life dealing with abuse from this guy,” LaPaglia said, referring to Bryan.
“I’m still scared right now because I’m scared of him,” she continued. “My brain is wired and I’m afraid of making him angry, and last week I didn’t want to talk about it because I was afraid.”
Speaking about the alleged abuse, she said it was a constant cycle of “picking you up, beating you, apologizing over and over”.
“There was always some other excuse for why he treated me so badly and why I cry myself to sleep every night,” she said. “Why is he screaming at me and then you wake up, it’s an excuse, it’s ‘I’ll be better like I need you in my life’ but if you’ve been through this – I don’t expect people to understand emotional abuse if you haven’t through it, I hope you never have to go through it, but if you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about.”
LaPaglia also claimed that women who had previously been in relationships with Bryan were forced to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to prevent them from publicly discussing their own experiences with him. She was reportedly offered $12 million along with an apartment in a house in New York to “not talk about the relationship.”
“It came down to the fact that I wasn’t human before, and I was someone before you, and you made the women before me believe that they had no choice but to take money from you, sign their experiences, sign what they went through,” LaPaglia said.
“You can jump up and sing your little p—– songs on stage like you’re a good dude. You can treat the people around you like f—. Sorry, I’m not them. I don’t want your money; I don’t want for two years to buy a fucking house and think, ‘Oh, this is money from a guy who literally fucking destroyed me and broke me for a year.’ ”

“You made women before me believe they had no choice but to take money from you,” LaPaglia claimed. “[They] signed their experiences and what they went through [so] you can go and sing you little p— songs on stage like you’re a good guy.”
LaPaglia said she decided to open up about her alleged experiences “to everyone else who has been emotionally abused and people who are currently being emotionally abused.”

“It’s for anyone who doesn’t have the support system that I luckily had going through this,” she continued. “This is not a drama for me, this is not me not signing an NDA or taking money because I want to come here and expose who he is and all that shit. I’m not going to sign away from my experiences and what I’ve been through to protect someone who hurt and I’m much stronger than a weak man, fuck you and fuck your money.”

“Brianna and I broke up [each other] and I respect and love her with every ounce of my heart,” Bryan wrote. “She has loved me unconditionally for a very long time and for that I will always be grateful. Personally, I’ve had an incredibly difficult year and I’ve been struggling with some pretty tough things. I thought it would be beneficial for both of us to go our separate ways.”
LaPaglia felt “blindsided” by the news, she wrote in an Instagram Stories post, adding that she plans to “get off social media for a while and try to heal privately, when I’m ready I’ll be back and ready to talk.”
“I love you so much, thank you for all the kind words,” LaPaglia continued. “Remember you are so loved and everything will always be okay.”
