Martha Stewart accidentally killed the reporter featured in her new Netflix documentary, Marta.
In the film, which aired on October 30, Stewart, 83, claimed that Andrea Peyser — New York Post columnist who covered Stewart’s infamous trial in 2004 — was “dead now, thank God.” Except it isn’t.
Peyser used her last newspaper column to declare, “I’m alive, bitch!” Peyser, who started working for New York Post 1989, published at least eight other stories in 2024.
Stewart was convicted of lying to the FBI during an insider trading investigation in 2004.

“Guilty, guilty, guilty on all these counts of the indictment,” she said Marta. “My daughter, she fainted when they read the verdict. Poor child.”
Stewart called Peyser simply “the lady from the New York Post” and recalls seeing her in the courtroom when the verdict was announced. In her latest story, Peyser confirmed that she “wrote a weekly column at the Post” during that time.

“The lady from the New York Post was there, she just looked so smug,” Stewart said. “She wrote horrible things throughout the trial. But she’s dead now, thank God. And no one has to put up with the crap she wrote the whole time.”
“The news of my death was a shock,” Peyser said of her “unannounced cameo appearance.”
“But instead of feeling angry or worried that Martha is attacking me, or seeking immediate protection, I am deeply saddened by Martha’s bitterness.”
It is not clear why Stewart believed Peyser was dead.

The Netflix documentary follows Stewart’s life, including her five-month stay at Alderson Federal Prison in West Virginia (nicknamed Camp Cupcake) after her trial. She shared letters written while there.
On the first of 150 days in jail, Stewart wrote: “Physical exam, stripped down. Crouching, arms outstretched, coughing – uncomfortable.”
“I had to do all the crap you see in the movies,” she said. – You can’t even believe that this is what you are going through.
