Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia is an Indian politician. He belonged to the erstwhile royal Scindia family that once ruled Gwalior, and therefore, he was also the titular Maharaja of Gwalior.

Jyotiraditya Scindia was born on January 1, 1971, into the royal Scindia family in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His grandfather Maharaja Jivaji Rao Scindia The last prince of the princely state of Gwalior, he joined the Dominion of India in 1947. He was allowed to have titles and privileges like other Indian princes. Therefore, even today, his family holds the titular title of Maharaja. He received his primary education from Campion School, Mumbai and Doon School, Dehradun. For higher education, he attended Harvard University and graduated in 1993 with a major in Economics. Scindia received her MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001.

He was born to Madhavrao Scindia and Madhavi Raje Scindia. His father was a politician and member of the Indian National Congress (INC) who served as civil aviation minister in the government of PV Narasimha Rao.
His mother Madhavi Raje Scindia was the daughter of Nepalese prince Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana. Madhavi Raje died of pneumonia on May 15, 2024, at AIIMS, New Delhi.
He has a sister, Chitrangada Raje Scindia, who married Kashmiri Prince Vikramaditya Singh on December 11, 1987.
He married Priyadarshini Raje Scindia on December 12, 1994. His wife belonged to the princely state of Baroda.
The couple has two children: Mahanaryaman Scindia (son) and Ananya Scindia (daughter).
Profession
He joined the Indian National Congress on March 18, 2001; on September 30, 2001, his father, Madhavrao Scindia, the current MP from Guna, passed away. In 2002, Jyotiraditya Scindia was elected as Member of Parliament from Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he defeated Haridwara Shukla and was re-elected as a member of Parliament. In 2007, he entered the federal cabinet and became Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology. When he was elected for a third consecutive term in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he was appointed Minister of State for Commerce and Industry.
In the 2012 cabinet reshuffle, Scindia became the Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge). In the 2014 general election, Scindia defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Jabhansinh Paavaiya and was elected as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha.
Scindia is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Scindia School, Gwalior. The school was founded in 1897 by his great-grandfather Madho Rao Scindia to provide education to Indian princes and nobles. He served as the president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA).
He lost the Guna seat to Krishna Pal Singh Yadav of the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. On March 9, 2020, he resigned from the Indian National Congress. On March 11, 2020, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
On July 7, 2021, he was sworn in as a cabinet minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet reshuffle.
On July 6, 2022, he was appointed to additional charge in the Steel Ministry following the resignation of RCP Singh. He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Guna seat in Madhya Pradesh and won. He was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Modi 3.0 government on June 9, 2024; he was appointed to the Ministry of Communications.
