Britain’s Got Talent in chaos as Ant McPartlin shocks Dec Donnelly with on-screen blunder

BRITAIN’S Got Talent was left in chaos when Ant McPartlin accidentally made his co-star Declan Donnelly jump out of his skin on live TV.

The Geordie duo were presenting the last live semi-final show of BGT this week when Anto was suddenly caught in the eye by a discarded prop.

Singer Gambino Akuboy just brought the house down with his song It’s The Weekend, which featured dancers throwing smoke guns into the air.

Ant, 48, saw one of them lying on the stage and picked him up, assuming the power was off.

But when he pulled the trigger, a huge cloud of smoke erupted – and sent Dec, also 48, jumping into the air in shock.

“Oh, it works!” Ant was crying, while Dec clutched his chest.

The mistake did not go unnoticed by viewers watching at home.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one posted a ‘crying’ emoticon and wrote: “Ant’s reaction to that actually works!”

Another added: “Ant is so mean!”

And a third asked: “Does Ant forget he’s on live TV?”

Five semi-final shows aired each night on ITV1 this week, hosted by Ant and Dec.

Each was broadcast live and resulted in two semi-finalists from each episode ending up in the live final on Sunday night.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Bruno Tonilio says he will be FIRED because host Ant McPartlin told him to

However, viewers were not always satisfied with the results at the end of the two-hour shows.

The public vote automatically places one act in the tie, before the judges choose their favorite for the second act.

But judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli kept finding themselves at a dead end.

This happened three nights in a row – and each time ended up going back to a public vote because they couldn’t decide.

One fan raged: “Seriously, what’s the point of having judges there if they just put it to a public vote most times.”

Britain’s Got Talent biggest ‘fixes’ disputes

Britain’s Got Talent has struggled with “repairs” for years. How many of these do you remember?

Jasmine Elcock – 2016: Teenage singer Jasmine Elcock stunned the nation with her version of Cher’s Believe. But then it turned out that she had already performed professionally in London’s West End. Jasmine, 14, admitted: “I did Annie in the West End when I was about nine or 10, but I’m really nervous.”

IrShad Shaikh – 2017: BGT fans questioned the rulebook when IrShad Shaikh auditioned. He received four red signals from the referees, which would normally mean an instant exclusion. However, in a strange turn of events, they let him continue with his point… and put him in the next round.

Colin Thackery – 2019: Older war veteran Colin won BGT 2019, but there was an upset over the final. He fought his way to victory with a version of We’ll Meet Again, but fans were furious that escapologist Jonathan Goodwin wasn’t even ranked in the top three. Viewers felt Jonathan – who nearly suffocated while buried alive in a gravel pit – should have won.

Axel Blake – 2022: Comedian Axel Blake won the 2022 Golden Buzzer after making the judges laugh. But fans were furious when they discovered that Axel already had a gig on the worldwide streaming platform Amazon Prime. Despite this, Axel still won the series.

Loren Allred – 2022: The 2022 series of BGT was hit with another controversy when singer Loren Allred was also awarded the Golden Buzzer. She performed Never Enough from the hit musical The Greatest Showman and received a standing ovation. It later turned out that Loren was actually the original voice behind the song.

Taryn Charles – 2024: Singer Taryn Charles is one of this year’s hopefuls who were lucky enough to receive the Golden Buzzer. Bruno Tonilio took her straight to the semi-finals after her performance of Aretha Franklin’s (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, but now it has emerged that she is no stranger to television. Viewers recognized Taryn from the ITV1 episode of Starstruck, where she played Whitney Houston for judges Olly Murs, Sheridan Smith, Adam Lambert and Beverley Knight.
