Brittany Mahomes Gives Health Update After Telling Fans She Had a ‘Broken Back’

Brittany Mahomes says she is “living her best life” after recovering from what she described as a broken back.

“It’s great for me. My back isn’t broken anymore, so that’s good,” Mahomes, 28, told E! News on Friday.

“I’m still in the gym. I finally, I think, made a full recovery and went back to doing the things I’ve always been able to do. I stay on top of my health and it’s very important to me to be active and healthy for my kids and my dogs.”

Mahomes — who shares daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and son, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 17 months, with her husband, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — previously shared that she fractured her pelvic floor in an Instagram story.

“Just a daily reminder”, newly minted Sports Illustrated the swimsuit model wrote over a Boomerang selfie video posted to her Instagram Story in March.

“When you have children, take care of your pelvic floor. Seriously,” she added. Mahomes signed the warning as “Girl with a broken back.”

While she didn’t reveal what treatment she was undergoing for her injury, Mahomes joked “maybe vacationing with my friends will make it better?” in the Instagram Story that followed.

The Cleveland Clinic, however, recommends Kegel exercises—which “involve tightening and then releasing the muscles in the pelvic floor to strengthen them”—to help a weak pelvic floor.

“Pelvic fractures represent a major injury with long-term functional and socioeconomic effects,” says the National Library of Medicine. “Associated complications may include both short-term and long-term effects on the genitourinary and reproductive systems.”

And a weak pelvic floor can affect your back, said Yves-Richard Dole, MD, an OB/GYN at Metropolitan OB/GYN, an affiliate of The Family Childbirth and Children’s Center at Mercy Women’s health.

“The pelvic floor is connected to the lower back, and each of the bones is connected by a series of ligaments and tissues,” Dole told the outlet.

“If there’s a lack of stability” in the pelvic floor, Dole said, “it can lead to further injury.”

However, Mahomes says she has made a full recovery and is happy to say, “I’m living my best life.”
