Brooke Shields’ 5 Siblings: All About Her Sisters and Brother

Brooke Shields may have been in the spotlight since she was 11 months old, but her five siblings have largely stayed out of the public eye.

Born on May 31, 1965, the actress was the only child her parents, Teri Shields and Frank Shields Jr., had together. The former Lord & Taylor make-up artist and the New York businessman married in 1964 and divorced just five months after Brooke was born.

Frank went on to have three more daughters—Marina Shields Purcell, Olympia Bishop, and Cristiana Shields—with his second wife, Diana “Didi” Lippert, whom he married in 1970. He was also stepfather to Didi’s two older children, Diana Cunningham and Thomas Auchincloss Jr. .

Despite eventually becoming part of a big family, Brooke said Sydney Morning Herald in 2023 that she saw herself as the only child of a single mother when she was younger. Teri was her main caretaker as well as manager.

In his memoirs from 2005 It Was Raining: My Journey Through Postpartum DepressionBrooke described how she “desperately” wanted a sibling and how her blended family eventually fulfilled that wish.

“My mother never adopted a child, but my father remarried,” she wrote. “Since my stepmother already had two children from a previous marriage, I immediately got siblings. Then, luckily for me, my dad and stepmom added three beautiful daughters to the family. As a result, I was able to maintain the privileged status of an only child with my mother while enjoying being part of a larger family with my father.”

They were raised on Long Island and Palm Beach

Frank came from a prominent New York family – his father was a top tennis player and actor – so his children grew up nearby on Long Island, New York. In 1989, Frank opened his real estate company in Palm Beach, Florida and the family moved there.

Even though Brooke was a young adult and a huge star at the time, she still spent time with her extended family in Florida. She even exchanged vows with her husband Chris Henchy there in 2001.

Brooke isn’t the only sibling who likes Palm Beach. Although Olympia worked as an educator in New York for years, she returned to the Florida city in 2015 to teach at her former high school.

Cristiana and Marina worked in the jewelry industry

In 1993, Cristiana started a unique jewelry business—according to her company’s website, she designs each piece by hand. Said the entrepreneur The Palm Beach Post in 2012 that she named the company after her late father who passed away in 2003.

“He was so tall, dark and handsome, a funny guy, charming and larger than life,” Cristiana said. “He was someone everyone went to for advice. They knew he would be honest.”

Marina also tried her hand at the jewelry business. According to a 2015 interview on Alexandra Knight’s blog, she worked for fine jewelry store Verdura before moving on to jobs at Harvard Business School, The Wedding List, and American Express.

At the time of the interview, Marina was living in New York with her husband Thomas Purcell and their two children, but said she often missed her childhood home in Palm Beach.

“The bougainvillea and jasmine blooming at night always remind me of my home: Palm Beach,” said Marina. “I even had my walls hand painted with palm trees and vine leaves so I could be surrounded by them.”

Marina and her husband met during her freshman year at Georgetown University. The couple runs a foundation that has given $500,000 to the university since 2020. Georgetown Voice.

Olympia didn’t know Brooke was famous

Growing up with an ultra-famous sibling like Brooke may seem daunting, but for Olympia it was life as usual. She remembered that Palm Beach Illustrated 2018 that when she was a child, she was too young to realize that her older sister — whom she affectionately calls “Brookie” — was a celebrity.

“Everybody’s somebody down here,” she told the magazine. “So people are humble and don’t make a big deal out of it.”

Diana is an interior designer

Diana is a project manager for McCann Design Group, an interior design firm based in Palm Beach. According to the company’s website, she graduated from Skidmore College and worked for some famous interior designers in New York before returning to her hometown.

Diana also appeared in two episodes of Brooke’s documentary series Beautiful baby in 2023

Cristiana said that she is the “quiet one” in the family

The Shields house was pretty full—and, according to Cristina, pretty loud. She said The Palm Beach Post in 2012 that her siblings “talk all the time” and that she didn’t speak until she was 5 or 6 years old.

Despite the initial silence and the 10-year age difference, Cristiana said she and Brooke remained close. “We look so alike and have the same sense of humor,” she said. “But she has a husband and a family. I’m single and I have a dog.”

Diana and Thomas are married to the Kennedys

Brooke’s siblings Diana and Thomas are related to the Kennedy family by marriage. According to Jackie Kennedy’s obituary in The New York Times, Diana and Thomas’ grandfather, Hugh D. Auchincloss, married Jackie’s mother, Janet Lee Bouvier, in 1942..

Decades later, the Shields and Kennedy families were almost reunited. Brooke revealed on SiriusXM The Howard Stern Show in April 2023 that she was “madly in love” with John F. Kennedy Jr. since he was 3 years old. As adults, they actually went on a date, and Brooke shared that they had “the best kiss I’ve ever had in her life.”

Diana helped Brooke say goodbye to her father

IN It was raining, Brooke wrote about how Diana helped her say goodbye to her father before he died – even though she was on the other side of the country. Brooke had just given birth to her first daughter, Rowan, and was in Los Angeles when she got the call.

“It was Diana, my half-sister, who instructed me to tell my father whatever I wanted or needed, because the end was near,” she wrote in an extract shared on a postpartum depression support website. “I told him I always felt lucky to have my father… he couldn’t answer, but my younger sister, Cristiana, said he was wiggling his toes. Three hours later, with the whole family around him (except me), my dad left this country.”
