Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion to Reunite on Upcoming Collaboration ‘Bongos’

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion broke the internet when they dropped “WAP” in 2020 — and they’re about to do it again.

The “I Like It” rapper, 30, and the “Body” rapper, 28, began teasing their latest collaboration on Monday, announcing on Instagram that their new single “Bongos” will be released this Friday.

Both superstars, whose real names are Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar and Megan Pete, shared the news by posting colorful individual artwork. In the cover for “Bongos,” the rappers both hold lollipops while wearing matching bodysuits, heels and bracelets in different pastel shades, with their hair playfully styled in cotton candy curls.

“Bongos” is the first follow-up from the Grammy-winning duo following their 2020 hit “WAP.” Their previous team-up made history as the first female rap collaboration to debut at No. 1 on Board Hot 100, will spend four weeks at number one.

The sexual anthem also drew a backlash from conservative pundits, who were publicly addressed by both Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi.

Rapper “Savage” appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at the end of 2020 to talk about reactions to the song.

“First of all, I want to thank Cardi for including me in the song in the first place,” she said. “But, I mean, I felt like it was really, like, a little weird. I know the Republicans had a bad year and probably had to vent their frustrations somewhere.”

Although they performed the hit song during the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021, it was not submitted for consideration for the awards. Cardi admitted that despite the song’s success, the negative response deterred her from applying for the Grammys.

“I have to stop letting the internet control my life,” she explained on Jason Lee’s REVOLT show about why she was “afraid” to submit the song. “The Internet even scared me of winning. It’s crazy.”

Regardless, the collaboration continued and was certified seven times platinum in the US and won an American Music Award, a BET Award, three BET Hip Hop Awards and a People’s Choice Award, among other accolades.

Although Cardi has yet to release a full-length album since her 2017 debut Violation of privacy“Bongos” is the latest in a string of singles she’s dropped over the past few years, including 2022’s “Hot S—” and 2021’s “Up.”

The upcoming single isn’t just Megan Thee Stallion’s first release since her 2022 album traumatized. but since Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August for shooting her three years ago.
