It was on 16 November 2021, during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, that Pakistan was officially announced as the host of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. India became the first team to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy after defeating Sri Lanka and also became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They will be joined by host nation Pakistan, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Afghanistan, and one more team, making a field of eight formidable teams.

In its nascent days, this cricket event was called the ICC Knockout, debuting in 1998 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, followed by a stint in Nairobi, Kenya in 2000. It wasn’t until 2002 that the competition took on the ICC Champions moniker. Trophy.
