Charlie Puth Wants to Show Fans ‘How Music Is Made’ During His TikTok In the Mix Performance (Exclusive)

Charlie Puth takes fans behind the magic of TikTok’s In the Mix event.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, the award-winning singer reveals that his headlining performance at the social media network’s inaugural concert will emphasize “showing the layers” behind the creation of some of his biggest songs.

“I think, in the traditional sense, that will be my gig,” he says. “So I’ll be playing old songs and new songs and maybe some songs that haven’t been released yet so it’s fun because why not? But the biggest thing I want people to get from watching me up here is making music and how music is made. Kind of like what I I’m working on these short videos on TikTok.”

Puth notes that his goal is to “try to transfer” the experience of creating one of his songs “into a live environment.”

“It’s going to be a layering of ‘Left and Right,’ my song with Jungkook, showing how it starts with the guitar, then the bass layer and then the drum layer,” he adds of what fans can expect from his performance.

The “See You Again” singer will be joined by co-headliners Cardi B, Niall Horan, Anitta and Reneé Rapp, who will all take the stage for TikTok In the Mix live in Mesa, Arizona and online on December 10. .

“Some of the best moments I’ve had interacting with my fans, especially while on TikTok, is discovering that they all have some kind of innate musical ability that maybe they didn’t want to broadcast before TikTok,” he explains.

Puth adds, “One fan might have a lot of covers, and I find they have a really good voice, so I’ll write them and I’ll say, ‘You’ve got a really good voice, keep it up.’ TikTok has really allowed people to show their inner creativity and shine it to the world more than ever.”
