Cheryl Burke Describes — and Names — the Perfect Dance Partner: I Want a ‘Good Person’ (Exclusive)

During his 26 seasons of competition at Dancing with the stars, Cheryl Burke has teamed up with seemingly all sorts of people. And while he won’t rank his partners, it seems that he certainly has a favorite. When asked to describe the “perfect dance partner,” Burke told PEOPLE exclusively at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Saturday, “I would love someone who’s just a good person.”

“Actually, like Jack Osborne,” she continued of her Season 17 partner, with whom she was tied for third. “He was a great guy.”

“Maybe she can dance, maybe not, but since she’s a good person, I want to teach you,” Burke added.

For a retired professional, the ability to dance well is actually one of the least important qualities he needs. “It’s really all about what’s behind the dance shoes, behind the dance costume,” she explained. “If you can dance and you’re mean, I’d rather not be your partner.”

“I had them all. I had them all,” Burke added.

Burke left the show last year, but still keeps an eye on him.

Earlier this week, would-be contestant Matt Walsh put a “hiatus” on his DWTS participating in the midst of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

“I think it’s personal,” Burke told PEOPLE of the contestant’s decision to compete. “I think they’re still going on with the show, from what I’ve heard. Things can change literally an hour from now, but I trust them that they have [making] the best decision for what’s best for the show.”
