Christina Hall and Ex Tarek El Moussa Will Reunite for New HGTV Series with His Current Wife Heather

Christina Hall and Tarek El Moussa are getting back together — professionally!

The former, who starred in the HGTV hit Flip or flop 9 years, even after their split, until the end of the series in 2022, they will appear in a new series, Flip Off.

The cheekily titled spin-off will feature Christina and her new husband, realtor Josh Hall, competing with Tarek and his new wife, Selling Sunset alum Heather El Moussa. According to a statement from the network, the friendly exes will “take it down” to see who can “find, buy, renovate and flip a house for the biggest financial gain.”

The series, which was announced on Wednesday, May 15, is scheduled to air in early 2025.

“I never thought I’d be doing this,” Christina says in voiceover in the dramatic trailer above, shared in a joint announcement by all four stars and HGTV on Wednesday morning.

“This is one of the defining moments of my life,” adds Tarek. The 30-second teaser is punctuated by a song with lyrics that include, “Did you try to ditch me? You thought I was history. But now you have to face me. I’m back with a vengeance,” which plays as Tarek and Heather emerge from flashy cars in all black clothes.

The day before the announcement, Tarek, Christina and Heather appeared together in an Instagram post that raised eyebrows and poked fun at longtime fan jokes about the two women’s similar looks.

In the snap shared by all three stars on Instagram on Tuesday, Heather and Christina are standing next to each other in matching black tank tops and jeans. “Hi, I’m Christina,” Heather, 36, says in the video. “I’m Heather!” replies Christina, 40.

Heather continues, “Wait no, that’s not right.” The pair then start twirling their matching blonde curls as Christina jokes with a shrug, “It must be all that bleach.”

The camera then pans to Tarek, 42, who is currently married to Heather and was previously married to Christina, sitting on a chair while two women stand behind him.

“Well, I guess is confusing,” he says with a smile.

“I guess you’re not the only one confused…🤔”, reads the title of the post. Hall commented, “👯‍♀️ 🤷🏼‍♀️” followed by a similar comment from Heather: “👯”

After Christina and Tarek’s very public divorce in 2018 following a harrowing gun incident in 2016, the exes continued filming Flip or flop together for another 6 years.

Later seasons of the show drew on their sometimes contentious relationship. And an explosion between the two on set in 2021 revealed that things were occasionally even more dramatic behind the scenes.

A source later told PEOPLE that Tarek is “extremely remorseful” for “getting fired up,” but noted, “They’re exes who share history and kids and a workplace, but outside of co-parenting, they’re not friends.”

Another source said at the time that the couple “are generally cordial. They’re co-parents and there’s nothing wrong with that,” but added, “the show was too intimate a setting at this point and it was time to close that chapter.”

However, when they announced the end of the series in March 2022, just a week before the final episode aired, they called it “the end of an era”.

“I will forever be grateful that I had the show for a decade,” Christina told PEOPLE exclusively at the time. “It’s a great achievement and everyone who worked on the series should be very proud.”

“The series went through ups and downs and believe me it wasn’t always easy,” she added. “I’m looking forward to my next chapter and working in a positive, fun and creative environment. I’m ready to de-stress and enjoy life and all it has to offer.”

Tarek expressed a similar sentiment in a statement he shared exclusively with PEOPLE: “I couldn’t be more grateful for the past ten years with Flip or flop. The support from our fans, the network and the wild ride has been amazing,” he said, adding, “Although it is Flip or flop chapter is coming to an end, another exciting one is about to begin.”

“I didn’t talk about it much because I’m a very happy, positive person, but I felt like I was always different,” she said. “No one has ever made me feel that way, but I think when your significant other has such a long relationship with a previous spouse and a lot of love — and it was a very public divorce and you get into that. You fall in love with each other, but always in a way you mean ex For me I am.”

However, Heather and Hall managed to find a common language.

“I think she realized how much I love children and that they are my number one, above all else. So, regardless of the drama, children are the most important to all of us.”

Today, things are much easier among the group. On Mother’s Day this year, Tarek and Heather even exchanged bouquets with Christina and Josh.

“I don’t hold anything against Christina. I don’t blame her. I understand why she did what she did,” El Moussa says. “We’ve had a lot of tough years through my illnesses and my mental issues because of the testosterone. So, no hard feelings, and I understand her point of view.”
