Comedian Jeff Dye Charged with DUI, Fleeing the Scene of an Accident After Crashing into Tree

Jeff Dye was arrested over the weekend in California and charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and driving under the influence, PEOPLE can confirm.

40-year-old comedian and television personality, who currently hosts a syndicated Fox game show Who is that BLEEP?was arrested on a misdemeanor charge by Burbank police on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 9:56 a.m. local time and booked into the Burbank Jail nearly an hour later, according to public inmate records.

He was released without bail at 1:04 p.m., following a judicial review.

Sergeant Stephen Turner, Burbank Police Public Information Officer, told PEOPLE that authorities responded to a single traffic collision at Pass Avenue and Alameda Avenue around 9:30 a.m.

“Witnesses reported that the driver of the white Tesla crashed into a tree and the driver fled on foot,” said Sgt. Turner said. “Based on the witness description, the driver was located just a few blocks east of the scene and was taken into custody [an] investigation.”

After interviewing witnesses and taking statements from Dye, the standup was arrested and detained. “No other vehicles were involved and no one was injured,” said Sgt. Turner said.

A source tells PEOPLE that those close to Dye are “concerned about him and hope he gets the help he needs.”

Asked for comment, Dye’s attorney, Andrew B. Leventhal, tells PEOPLE, “Although no one was injured, this is a traumatic event for Jeff. Please be careful and respect his privacy while I take care of this matter. He is presumed innocent.” ”

Dye was a finalist on NBC’s sixth season Last Comic Standing 2008, finishing third behind winner Iliza Shlesinger and runner-up Marcus. He followed the series with a series of tours and festivals before hosting his own half-hour Comedy Central special in 2010.

That same year, Dye was chosen to host MTV Numbnuts. The Seattle native has appeared on numerous shows with the Seattle network, hosting in 2012 Money from foreigners and MTV’s Club New Year’s Eve 2013. It was repeated on At the girl’s throughout 2013.

Other notable appearances included ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Fox’s Masked singer and I can see your voice and NBC Better ever than never – the latter opposite William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw, George Foreman and Henry Winkler.

He is currently the host Jeff Dye’s Friendship Podcast and co-hosts Wrestling with FreddieFreddie Prinze Jr.’s pro wrestling podcast.

In October 2020, Dye and reality star Kristin Cavallari were seen kissing at a bar in Chicago. The couple continued to spend time together, including a trip to Mexico that December and lunch and coffee together in Los Angeles in February 2021, although their casual romance fizzled by March 2021.
