Daisy Ridley Says She Had to Make ‘the First Two Star Wars Films to Feel Worthy’ of Being in Franchise

Daisy Ridley opens up about how she was in the Star Wars movie franchise.

The actress, 31, who played Rey in the sequel trilogy The force is awakening, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, she revealed in front of her new Star Wars movie that she felt worthy of being in the franchise only after the first two installments.

When asked if he would feel strange appearing in the Star Wars without actors Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, Ridley said Diversity“No, because I don’t know what is what or who is who [in the new movie].”

“So much has happened to me [since the Skywalker saga]. Now I feel like an adult,” she added. “When I first started, I was about 20 years old. I was the youngest on the set. I needed the first two Star Wars movies to make them feel worthy of being there.”

“I’m in my 30s now. The whole thing looks very different,” Ridley told the paper. “I’ve been able to work with other filmmakers and hopefully I’ve gotten better as a performer.”

First announced in April 2023 during the Star Wars Celebration in London, the new film will follow the events of 2019. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker with Ridley reprising her role as Rey as she builds the new Jedi Order.

The untitled film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel).

“I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman,” Ridley said Diversity after being asked about the first female director of a film franchise. (Forthcoming Acolyte the series was created by director Leslye Headland, while Bryce Dallas Howard and Deborah Chow directed various episodes of the growing live-action series Star Wars TV shows.)

“Her documentaries are amazing. Her story idea is cool as s—,” Ridley continued, while teasing that the director “gave me a synopsis of the whole story.” The actress then joked, “If it wasn’t amazing, I’d be like, ‘OK, call me for five years.’ But it’s worth it.”
