Danielle Brooks Spreads Her Wings on the 2024 ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards Red Carpet!

The celebrant attended Thursday’s ceremony wearing a shimmering gold gown with a high neck and a halo headdress that held up a slicked-back ponytail. The angelic look is completed with silver and gold rings and open-toed heels.

Brooks beamed even more as she described to PEOPLE what it meant to her to receive a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 2024 Academy Awards, making her an EGOT nominee.

“I think what happens when people ask me about my journey, and I know how hard I had to work to become the woman that I am, and when I’m surrounded by people who whisper little things in my ear, say ‘keep going,’ that’s what makes me emotional,” she says.

“That’s what makes me feel, oh my god,” Brooks continues. “So I’ve always had my ten fingers down. At this point I feel and know I deserve it, but that’s why I get emotional.”

Brooks reflected on being recognized by ESSENCE magazine in a heartfelt Instagram post earlier this week.

“Sometimes you just have to do what the old people used to say, keep running to see how it ends.” I’m so glad I kept running. And boy, this came right on time. It’s always been a dream to have a solo cover for @essence magazine. Thank you @essence for this unforgettable moment. I’m elated. 🥹💜🌺,” Brooks wrote.

With the 96th Annual Academy Awards just days away, Purple star gave PEOPLE a peek at her nails, which are currently painted with the number 26 because she’s “the 26th black woman to be nominated for a supporting actress Oscar.”

Fans can expect Brooks to go in her Oscars outfit as she has done all awards season.
