Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the film’s New York premiere on Sunday, Bautista, 55 — who plays Beast Rabban in the film — opened up about working with his star-studded castmates.

“It’s terrifying,” the actor tells PEOPLE. “It’s really scary, to look over and see Stellan Skarsgård and look down and see Christopher Walken, and see Timmy [Timothée Chalamet] and Zendaya and Austin [Butler] and Florence [Pugh] and Josh Brolin.”

“God, I’m in love with a man, with Josh Brolin,” he adds. “I love him as a performer, as a human being.”

Speaking of working on set Dina: The second part with the director Denis Villeneuve, Bautista says: “My favorite memory was my first day on the job, when I was there just for a costume change.”

“Denis came to greet me,” he adds. “I’ve been dying to talk about the character because he’s more detailed, he’s more developed in this. And I said, ‘Let’s talk about it. Who’s he? What do you think?’ And he said, ‘Let me dream about it tonight and I’ll tell you tomorrow.’ ”

“I thought that was the best response I’ve ever gotten from anyone in my life,” Bautista continues. “I just got chills.”

“I knew he was going to come back and we had a very special, intimate conversation about the character,” he says. “That’s my experience with him. Even when my roles aren’t that big, he’s just invested, invested in my characters and invested in me.”
