The mother of the children, Angelika Swiderska, released a statement today through the police.

Angelika said: “Piotr was an amazing husband and father to Kacper, Nikodem and Dominik.

“He loved us with all his heart and would do anything for us. The children loved their dad.

“Our boys were cheerful, active children, full of life and happiness, always smiling.

“Even when I looked sad, they would say ‘Mommy smiles like us.’ We mourn for all of them.

“We would like to ask for privacy while we try to understand why this tragedy occurred.

“I would like to say a big thank you to our entire community for all the messages of condolence, flowers, cards and teddy bears and for all the kind words about our family.”

Officers were called to a home in Spelthorne at around 1.15pm on Saturday afternoon.

They found the bodies of three children and a man on the property.

Their deaths are believed to be an “isolated incident” with no third party involvement.

Surrey Police referred the IOPC watchdog because of previous contacts between officers and those involved.

DCI Gareth Hicks, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a truly tragic incident.

“A thorough investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened.

“We thank the local community for their support and understanding during the investigation.

“We can also now update that while Bremer Road was closed for a significant amount of time yesterday, it has now fully reopened.

“Police will continue to have a presence in the area for the foreseeable future.”
