Dimple Yadav is an Indian politician. She is the wife of Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. She served twice as MP from Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Dimple met Akhilesh Yadav when he was 17 years old. Akhilesh was 21 years old at the time and attending college. They met at a mutual friend’s house. She began seeing him secretly, and after a year of dating, Akhilesh left to study engineering in Sydney, Australia. They exchanged letters frequently. After returning from Sydney, they decided to get married. Previously, their families did not approve of their marriage; they came from different backgrounds. After much persuasion, the family agreed and the two got married in 1999.

Dimple Yadav was never interested in politics. After marriage, she plans to become a housewife and handle the family business. She contested her first election in 2009 but lost to Congress MP Raj Babbar. In 2012, Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha and entered the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council; after being elected as the Chief Minister of UP. He vacated the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency to make way for Dimple to contest from there. She was elected unopposed in the by-election in Kanauj, Uttar Pradesh.

Dimple became the 44th person in India and the fourth person from Uttar Pradesh to be elected unopposed in the election. She is also the first woman to be elected unopposed in Uttar Pradesh. She contested the 2019 general elections from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. She lost to the BJP’s Subhrat Pathak by more than 12,000 votes.

On December 8, 2022, she defeated her nearest rival Raghuraj Singh Shakya of the BJP by over 2 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha by-election from Mainpuri seat . She defeated her nearest rival Jaiveer Singh of the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of 221,639 votes.

In 2007, Dimple Yadav and the entire Yadav family were named in a misappropriation of assets case. During investigation and questioning, Dimple revealed that she used to file her taxes separately, so her income could not be consolidated with other members of the Yadav family. The Solicitor General of India, the adjudicating authority of the CBI and the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) upheld her defense in the case. Dipple’s name has been removed from the investigation.
