Talking to a media outlet, Nagaraj revealed that Srinivas aimed to become a civil servant but ultimately chose the medical field. Nagaraj said,

Thereafter, in 2016, he was appointed as the Director, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad, with the responsibility of revitalizing ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Hyderabad. He succeeds Randeep Guleria, who has been holding the post since March 2017 and will be appointed as Director, AIIMS in September 2022.

Building institutions is important. A person is no one. Today we are here, tomorrow we are not here. So the system is very important. If the institution is beyond me, that’s not my success. This is the success of the system. “
