After two decades away from competitive reality television, dr. Will Kirby will try his hand at Island Agreed or Not Agreed.

“My kids are 11 and 14 and they’ve never seen me on a competitive reality show,” Big Brother winner, 52, tells PEOPLE. “I’ve never been seen doing any of that, it’s just not something we look at. We watched especially my daughter Island Agreed or Not Agreed season 1. I won’t tell you what it was, but she said, ‘It would be really, really funny if you did this on that show.’ And I said, ‘You know what, honey? I will do it.’ And I succeeded. I think she’s going to watch it and she’s going to love it, and it’s going to be hilarious.”

While his fellow contestant Parvati Shallow tried to hide her Survived past from her Agreement or not Actors, Kirby says there was “no way” he could hide his reality resume when he steps into the game on the Jan. 14 episode.

“I was very aware of my reputation,” says the father of two. “So I came in hot, guns blazing. I wanted to win people over.”

Kirby adds that he “couldn’t be who I really am,” which he describes as “meek, quiet and introverted” and “the guy who reads books and goes to bed at 9:00.”

“Not only is it not good for the show, it’s just not what people would believe,” he says. “So I went in just screaming and yelling. I came to have fun.”

Although Kirby says he wanted to win, the late arrival made it difficult. “I knew the chances of that were slim, especially coming in late, especially with my reputation, which is not really deserved at this point,” he says. “But I understand my role.”

And despite his desire to win, “I can’t tell you in good conscience that I’ve tried to win a lot of contests,” Kirby teases. “I may or may not have organized a lot of competitions.”

The dermatologist explains that he played that way to ensure that he would go against the Banker every time. “Just statistically, it works in my favor,” Kirby says. “At least I can control my own destiny. That was my intention.”

In the premiere of the film on January 7 Island Agreed or Not Agreed season 2, the group only paid $1 and Luke Olejniczak went home after making a bad deal with the banker.

Kirby didn’t know who he would see standing on Banker’s Island when he showed up, but he suspected at least one other reality star would be joining him.

“I’m pretty smart. I knew there was going to be at least one more TV personality and I predicted it would be a woman, not a man, because last year it was Boston Rob,” says Kirby. “So I made a list of people I thought they might be, memorized all the details of their lives, and then when I showed up, sure enough, Parvati was right there. I have never spoken to Parvati in my life and I would love to work with her but I came late which was a challenge.”

The judges, (L to R) Marcellas Reynolds, Janelle Pierzina, Will Kirby appear on stage for "Big Brother 7: All-Stars" on CBS Radford on September 12, 2006 in Los Angeles, California.

Despite Shallow’s reputation as the Black Widow, Kirby thought “the biggest threat to my game is me.”

“If I can control my emotions, if I have a bit of luck, if I can make the right decisions, then I’ll do well,” he says. “And are there any great players on the show? Absolutely. This is the best cast I’ve ever seen, and I’ve done millions of shows. Everyone came out to play. A wildly intelligent group of people. Different lifestyles.”

“This is a youth game,” he says. “I really love what I do for a living. I love reality television and have been a part of it for 25 years. But nothing in life is sadder than a reality TV personality who doesn’t know when she’s going to retire. If I’m being really transparent, I think it’s time to pass the torch. And this is the best group to pass the torch.”
