Drea de Matteo Cheekily Explains Why She Joined OnlyFans: ‘Don’t Know Why I Didn’t Think of This Sooner’

Drea de Matteo is open about her decision to join OnlyFans.

The Soprano family alum, 51, announced on Instagram that she started an account on the subscription service last month and is now responding to critics of the choice.

“I know some people have said some nasty things about me joining OnlyFans,” de Matteo told Fox News. “But, you know, the way we see it in this house is that mom is a warrior, she doesn’t accept defeat.”

She continued: “I realized, ‘OK, so everyone’s in their underwear and they’re hot on Instagram and I’m not doing it, but I can do it and get paid for it.’ … I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.”

The Sons of Anarchy alum shared that she was forced to “change careers and come up with new things because my own industry thinks, you know, I’m a savage” after she refused to comply with the COVID vaccine orders, adding, “You could say that I bad girl because I didn’t follow the rules a couple of years ago. So I don’t want to be at the mercy of mandates or strikes or anything like that ever again.”

After de Matteo spoke out about the mandate, the actress claims her agent dropped her and “we almost lost our home because of it.”

“I just don’t care. I don’t. I’d rather save my family than save face,” she explained. “Listen, for the people who think it’s crazy. It’s not what you think it is. And for the people who think it’s crazy, that’s exactly what you want it to be.”

De Matteo — who played Adriana La Cerva on The Soprano family and had roles on Joey, Shades of Blue and Housewives — she also clarified her financial situation.

“People find it hard to believe that I’ve never been paid much for any job I’ve done. People think I’m made of fucking gold, and I’m not,” she explained. “I’ve worked from job to job. And I’ve turned down a ton of jobs in the past just to be with my kids because their dad’s on the road and he’s gone so much.”

Despite the internet backlash, the actress said her children — daughter Alabama Gypsyrose, 15, and son Waylon Albert “Blackjack,” 12, who she shares with ex Shooter Jennings — encouraged her to join the platform.

“My kids were the ones saying ‘Do it.'” Ljuska [Alabama] edit the pictures as well, because they want certain things that we couldn’t do,” she said. “I used to have a lot of money. And then, suddenly, I went from being allowed to work to never being able to work again. I’ve never been the type of actor to take jobs just to stay in business. I was literally taking jobs to feed my family.”

She added: “So when people make nasty comments about why I would do that, my response is, ‘Damn it, I hope you’re never in the fucking position I’m in. I take care of my whole family and a lot of other people. that depend on me.'”

De Matteo said she has never read anything posted about her, sharing: “I don’t read comments. I never have. I would say my last few relationships with men I’ve been with have actually gotten worse because they read every comment on my social media networks, their own social networks, whatever, and that destroys people.”

“I know what they are saying is not true,” she added. “Like, it never got under my skin because I stood up for something I believed in. I know what kind of actor I’ve been all my life. I know I’m good at what I do. I love what I do. But that’s not the only interest in my life.”
