Drew Barrymore Reveals to Jimmy Fallon That She 'Kept the Dirt' from Their 2005 Film Fever Pitch as the Stars Reunite

Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon share more about their movie Fever was originally supposed to end.

In the preview clip for the October 10 episode The Drew Barrymore Showactress, 49 and Tonight’s show host, 50, recalls the film’s original ending and his experiences filming during the World Series.

In the rom-com, Fallon plays Ben Wrightman, a young teacher obsessed with the Boston Red Sox, who falls in love with Lindsey Meeks, played by Barrymore. The film culminates with (spoiler alert!) the Red Sox making a historic comeback from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Yankees in the ALCS, followed by a victory over the Cardinals in the World Series.

However, in the original ending, Barrymore reveals that the Red Sox should have lost since they hadn’t won in 86 years in real life. The movie was originally supposed to end with the star characters dressing up as old men in the future when the Sox finally win.

“While we’re shooting, this is baseball history; while we’re shooting this movie, they go into the wild card, then they go into the playoffs. This is the most magical year,” Fallon says of the sports magic that’s unfolding. with recording.

“And we happen to have cameras at every one of these games,” Barrymore continues. “So we flew to the World Cup final, and Fox Sports said, ‘We’re going to let you use our cameras. You can’t bring film cameras to the final.’ By the way, my boyfriend at the time, Fabrizio Moretti, is watching the Red Sox series finale and there we are on the field kissing.”

Fallon adds that at the time, no one knew they were making a movie, and they asked Fox not to air footage of them playing together because they planned to use it in the movie. “And they say, ‘Yes, of course.’ ”

He goes on to explain that the television network eventually got nervous and cut to him and Barrymore on the mound after winning the game, where their characters kissed.

“I still have sand from the mound,” says Barrymore.

Of his memory, Fallon says, “My baseball hat that I got dirty because every real baseball fan has a dirty hat that they’ve had since high school. It’s gross and it has salt stains on it. That hat is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

During the get-together, the hosts also discussed Fallon’s recent 50th birthday. Fallon said that instead of having a big party, he just wanted to be with his family. He described waking up to a Pee-wee Herman breakfast made by his wife, Nancy Juvonen, that he hadn’t eaten since he was 12 years old. It consisted of pancakes with fried eggs for an eye, along with a fake Mr. T a snowflake that no longer exists.

Fallon then recounted how his family gave him a gift, which he later realized had a special bent Fever.

“When I was growing up, my dad had a jukebox and he got it for free from the VFW because it was broken,” he recalled. “My dad fixed it. And so we had a jukebox in our house and then eventually it broke again and then we just gave it away or threw it away or something.”

“Two years ago, my friend calls Nancy and says, ‘If you want a good gift for Jimmy, I think I saw his dad’s jukebox at the electronics store.’ And, she’s like, what? So she bought the jukebox and started it up again,” he added.

“My father’s handwriting is on all the 45s. Is that really crazy?” he continued. “And one of the, one of the songs on there is ‘Oh Babe What Would You Say’ by Hurricane Smith, which we used in the movie Fever. And it turned out to be my wife and I, one of our wedding songs.”

The Fallon episode The Drew Barrymore Show will be broadcast on Thursday, October 10.
