Not long after the premiere of the first film, the sequel was indeed given the green light, and the Oscar-nominated director said Entertainment Weekly would like to do “at least three” Dune movies.

“It’s not that I want to do a franchise, but I want this Duneand Dune it’s a huge story, said the 56-year-old Villeneuve at the time. “To respect that, I think you would need at least three films. That would be a dream. Following Paul Atreides and his entire arc would be nice.”

Unlike in Dune novel, Alia is not present when Paul catches up with his enemies and declares war at the end of Villeneuve’s sequel. The emperor’s daughter, Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh, offers Paul her hand in marriage, which he accepts — complicating the already strained relationship between Paul and Chani, Zendaya’s character.

Although Chalamet, 28, and Zendaya, 27, do not know for sure if a The third part is on the horizon, Costars told PEOPLE they are interested in more.

“I’m definitely curious just as a fan watching,” Zendaya said. “I loved seeing Florence in this and I’m very curious to learn more about Princess Irulan and the dynamic she shares with Paula and Chani. I would like to see more of that.”

But, she notes, “Denis and the powerful depend on it.”

In the climactic final scene of The second part, said Chalamet, you can feel the tension between all three characters. “Some of those photos are so creative, the way they communicate so much without words.”

Both Alia and Irulan are characters with significant roles in many of Herbert’s sequels, starting with Dune Messiah.

“When I approached Zendaya for First partI said, ‘I’ll introduce your character, and if it’s another movie, then you’ll be one of the main protagonists,'” Villeneuve said. EW recently. “I made the same deal with Florence. Her character is presented in The second partbut then if there is an adaptation of Dune Messiahof course Princess Irulan is one of the main characters in that story.”
