Lyons was part of a news crew covering the February 22, 2023 homicide of Nathache Augustin, 38, of Pine Hills, Orange County, earlier that day.
The shooter from the earlier incident, Keith Melvin Moses, returned to the scene and killed Lyons and Spectrum 13 photographer Jesse Walden. He then went to a nearby home and shot the woman, whose name has not been identified, as well as his 9-year-old daughter T’Yonna Major.
Moses, an acquaintance of Augustin’s, was later detained by police. While the lady and Walden were badly injured but survived, Lyons and the major were killed.

Later Wednesday, police revealed they had taken into custody 19-year-old suspect Keith Melvin Moses, who they say knew the first victim but apparently had no connection to the other victims.
Authorities have yet to determine a motive, and since Lyons and Walden’s vehicle was apparently not marked as a regular news van, it’s unclear if the attacker knew they were reporters.
