In the format-changing show, scenes of Linda’s death and her subsequent funeral were packaged together in one program.
The BBC One episode opened with Linda’s furious confrontation with her mother Elaine.
Elaine begged her daughter to get help and go to rehab during a tense bedroom showdown.
In the midst of a heated argument, Linda remained adamant and insisted she didn’t want help, leading to her throwing her mum over the bed in a fit of rage.
The unexpected attack was witnessed by Ollie who later admitted to his older brother Johnny that he knew about Linda’s alcoholism.
As the evening continued, Elaine once again tried to convince Linda to give up the bottle as they headed downstairs to the bar.
Furious, Linda said she would choose “vodka” over rehab and planned to go back to bed with her.
But Elaine revealed that she was going to call the police and report the bedroom attack to them in an attempt to lock Linda up and get her off the booze.
This caused Linda to storm out of the Vic, bottle in hand, as well as Ollie’s drawing of her cut half on the ground with the bottle pressed to her lips.
Linda soon drained a full bottle of vodka and wandered off into the night where she came across a man sleeping in bed and crawled under the covers with him.

In terrifying scenes, the man then began sexually assaulting Linda as she fell asleep drunkenly on top of him before suddenly waking up.
She yelled, “No!” as she ran, carrying the man’s beer with her.
Back near the Square, and after another drink, Linda began to feel pain as she moaned and writhed on a park bench.
The situation made for uncomfortable viewing as she violently threw up over the war memorial before feeling short of breath.

Tragically, Linda then died from the effects of drinking.
In an unusual twist, the soap then jumped straight to scenes of her funeral as her entire family – including children Nancy and Lee – gathered at the Vic before saying their goodbyes.
Clearly struggling, Johnny began hitting the bottle like his mother while keeping his drink on him the whole time and refusing to accept what was happening.
The coffin was then rolled through Walford as residents gathered to pay their respects.
There were only a few mourners present at the church with Elaine, Johnny, Lee, Nancy as well as Callum Highway and her best friend Sharon.
Sharon gave a speech in which she compared Linda to her late mom, Angie Watts.
She insisted that being an alcoholic was a disease which led to a furious Johnny lashing out and raving that it was all a choice.
A family feud quickly erupted as Nancy comforted her brother before taking her anger out on Elaine and holding her responsible for Linda’s death.

Nancy argued that Elaine could have done more to help save Linda who saw the two women get into a heated argument.
This led to Nancy slapping Elaine across the face.
Back at the pub, the three eldest children went downstairs to confirm that they were leaving and that they were taking Ollie and Annie with them for their own good and safety.
Elaine demanded that they stay at the pub as it was their home, but Nancy admitted that she had a battle as she was going to take the child custody matter to the Family Court.
She then screamed into the pub and insisted that everyone “get out” as she suffered a breakdown following Linda’s death.
Alone in the pub, the lights began to flicker around her.
The episode then flashed back to Linda on the night of her death as she stood outside the pub, holding a bottle of vodka after pouncing on Elaine.
Shaking, she looked at the picture Ollie had drawn of her – of her drunk and on the ground.
In a sudden moment of realization, she poured the entire bottle of vodka down the drain and returned to the pub to talk to Elaine.

Speaking to her tearful mum, Linda declared: “I don’t want to be this person anymore.”
Confirming that the events of the episode were in Linda’s mind, she said: “I’ve seen it all mum… what would happen if I didn’t stop. It’s like someone slapped me in the face and you’re right, the drink will kill me and when I die, everyone will hate me.”
Linda admitted she didn’t want to die as she hugged Elaine and promised to get help.
Could this finally be the turning point Linda needed to heal for good?
