Elizabeth Debicki on the Most Important Thing She Learned While Playing Princess Diana in The Crown

Elizabeth Debicki opens up about the role of Princess Diana Crown.

Speaking at the Season 6 premiere Crown on Saturday in Los Angeles, Debicki, 33, revealed exclusively to PEOPLE that she “learned a lot” playing the late princess.

“I don’t think you come close to learning as much as I did about this character without feeling like the only thing worth doing in life is love,” Debicki tells PEOPLE.

Debicki also revealed what she discovered about Princess Diana’s personality.

“I mean, I think I learned things about the degree to which she had a tremendous and wicked sense of humor, the hardships she faced, the way she triumphed through them, the way she used her voice in a way that was very progressive at the time,” Debicki tells PEOPLE. “Yeah, I learned a lot.”

Last month, Netflix premiered the official trailer for Season 6 Crown, which has been confirmed as the last season of the series. The two-minute teaser featured multiple shots of Debicki as Princess Diana playing the piano, as well as a photo shoot of her with love interest Dodi Fayed (played by Abdalla, 42).

The first part of the final season will debut on November 16 on Netflix with four episodes, focusing on the events surrounding the death of Princess Diana. However, PEOPLE previously confirmed that the fatal crash will not be featured in the series.

Meanwhile, the second part of the season will be broadcast on December 14 with six episodes. The episode is expected to highlight many storylines, including progress on King Charles and Camilla’s relationship, as well as Prince William’s love story with Kate Middleton.
