Elvis, Only Dog Left at Chicago Shelter, Is Adopted by Former Elvis Impersonator

Elvis was just a hound dog — until he found his happily ever after!

A dog named after the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was the last pup left after being adopted at The Anti-Cruelty Society (ACS), an animal shelter in Chicago.

After the Nov. 11 event, 22 dogs and 39 cats were adopted, with 3-year-old Elvis being the only dog ​​left, according to the ACS Facebook page.

Shortly after, the shelter asked for help finding a “handsome ham his forever home” in a post that was picked up by several media outlets.

“Elvis is the only dog ​​that did not find a home during our Fall in Love adoption event,” the shelter wrote. “He met many potential adopters, but unfortunately he was not adopted. Help us find an Elvis family to love!”

In the post, ACS described Elvis as a “three-year-old meatball” with the “silliest personality.”

“His giant smile lights up every room he walks into. Elvis is kind so he hopes you’re okay with giving up your personal space,” the shelter wrote.

Elvis arrived at ACS as an injured stray dog. “He was not putting weight on his back leg and after x-rays we learned he had a fractured pelvis,” the post said, adding that “the fracture healed while we were in our care, but Elvis will be bedridden with arthritis for his future.”

Three days later, the patient pup found his forever home with a couple who have a special bond with their new pet – one of them used to work as an Elvis Presley impersonator.

Loren Michael Agron, a former impersonator, and his partner Drew Wilhelm couldn’t help but fall in love with the smiling puppy, ACS said in a Facebook post Friday.

“Elvis has LEFT the building!” the shelter wrote alongside a photo of the trio. “His foster parents waited for the right time to welcome the dog into their family and when they saw Elvis on the news, they couldn’t deny that it was destiny!”

“This couple is head over heels in love with their new family member and already has a dog bed and tons of toys waiting for him in his forever home,” the post read. “Loren is a dedicated ACS supporter and has hosted many ACS fundraisers such as the amazing drag queen from Chicago, Debbie Fox! We couldn’t be happier for Elvis to finally get his happily ever after!”

In the post, Wilhelm also shared a message about the couple’s new puppy. “When no one else wanted him, we found him,” said the new adopter. “We’re all a bunch of misfits.”

Since welcoming Elvis into the family, Wilhelm has shared a glimpse of their early days together on social media.

On Saturday, alongside a photo of the puppy sleeping, he wrote: “Hurried home from work to hang out with Elvis. I took him for a long walk, fed him dinner, got about 5 minutes of playtime and this little meatball just knocked it out.”

“God, can this boy snore! I had to turn up the TV!” he added.

On Sunday, Wilhelm shared several more photos of the dog — including several shots of the dog walking by the lake. According to his owner, Elvis was recognized twice on the news while walking around Chicago.

“Update as requested. After a morning nap and cuddles, Elvis saw the lake for the first time!” he started fasting. “I can’t believe how quickly this guy has settled in. His personality shines through so much.”
