Sister Wives: Kody Felt ‘Duty-Bound’ to ‘Fake Being in Love’ with Meri and Admits They ‘Wasted’ 7 Years

The moment finally came when Meri and Kody Brown put an end to their marriage Sister wives.

On Sunday’s episode, Kody and Meri met with Robyn Brown about their plans for the family’s Coyote Pass estate. But neither Kody, 54, nor Robyn, 45, were prepared for what Meri, 52, was about to say next: “I was at a bed and breakfast last weekend and I need me.”

Meri spent more and more time in Utah focusing on her bed and breakfast, Lizzie’s Heritage Inn, and her LuLaRoe clothing business. And while she still planned to keep her place in Flagstaff, Arizona, Meri now said she “probably won’t renew my lease here” despite still intending to build a home in Coyote Pass.

Meri’s statement led to the trio starting a bigger conversation about her future with Kody, who she has been married to for 32 years but has experienced serious difficulties. The longtime couple then revealed to Robyn the details of their recent private conversation, during which they decided it was best to “continue to be friends” since Kody felt that “romance…wasn’t in this picture.”

“I’m trying to be as honest as I can without being an ass,” Kody told both women, after which Meri asked how Robyn felt about the whole thing. “Maybe it’s only fair that Robyn is here. She’s been your lawyer for seven years.”

Meri added, “I think she’s been my advocate for longer than that.”

“You want something we can’t have together,” Kody said answering Meri. – We can always do something else, but not that.

Kody’s revelation caused Robyn to immediately cry, eventually deciding to walk away from the conversation for a while. “I can see where they’re going with this and they’re both very calm, and it scares me. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to sit here and watch them decide if this is what they’re going to do,” Robyn told the cameras.

Kody and Meri continued to talk during Robyn’s brief absence. “I’m sitting here feeling like it’s ridiculous to stay in a duty-bound marriage,” Kody said as Meri replied, “No, I don’t think it’s fair for either of us.”

The Brown family patriarch then remarked that “the hardest thing is accepting that you’re not going to go back to a place that matches what you’re looking for,” prompting Meri to express her displeasure in the confessional that Kody “puts all of this on me and he doesn’t owns that he simply has no interest.”

However, Meri told Kody, “That doesn’t mean I’m not mad at you for not giving me what we promised each other.”

After Robyn’s return, she said she left because it was “painful” but still wanted to be “supportive”. Meri said at the time that the longtime couple actually had a “breakup conversation.” Kody also added, “I’m glad we’ve gone this long so we can be friends on the way out.”

As Robyn asked if Meri was “accepting” Kody’s proposal, Meri said, “What else am I supposed to do about it, Robyn? I’m not going to force someone to be with me who doesn’t want to be with me. I’m not going to force someone to act like they don’t want to be with me. wants.”

From Kody’s perspective, the “act” of “just doing my duty as a husband” is “easy.” But Meri retorted: “I will not be a duty.”

“It wasn’t acting. It was a performance. I was doing what I had to do. I’m sorry to call it acting,” Kody said as Meri added with a laugh, “No one wants to be that. And I” experienced it and it’s not fun.”

Moving on, Kody separately told the cameras, “I’m willing to pretend I’m in love with Meri, doing my duties as a husband, kind of putting up with things that frustrate me so much that I struggle to be around her.”

“I, if necessary, for what reason, I don’t know. I can fool myself through this. I don’t want to,” he added. “But if you’re going to insist, then we will. And she said, ‘I don’t want that.’

After making Robyn understand why it wasn’t “fair” for Meri and Kody to stay together anymore, Meri hugged them before they parted ways. Robyn — now left as Kody’s only wife after Christine Brown and Janelle Brown also left their polygamous marriage — stayed behind to process everything.

Meanwhile, Kody reflected on the whole situation in one last confessional.

“This is goodbye,” he said. “It was a negotiation that was a long time coming. I mean, it might have been a wasted seven years for Meri. I have no idea. But now we’ve come to an agreement and I hope she finds peace because I will too.”
