Emma Stone Jokes She’s ‘Learning Not to Care’ About Reviews While Winning 2024 Critics Choice Award

Critics Choice Awards 2024 have chosen the winner for the best film actress of the year: Emma Stone!

The actress was honored on Sunday for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor people. She began her acceptance speech by saying she was in “total shock” when she received the award. “This is completely crazy,” she said.

Speaking about the role – in which Stone, 35, took on a woman with the brain of a child – she joked about the influence of critics in the industry. “Playing Bella has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I had to learn a lot of things playing her. Unlearn the shame parts and the social stuff that’s put on us, and I’m still working on that,” she said. .

Ending with a joke, Stone added: “This is the Critics Choice Awards – and it’s about outside opinion – but I’m very grateful to the critics for this. But I’m just learning that I don’t care what you think.”

Stone also paid tribute to the other women nominated in the category — personally naming Lily Gladstone, who was nominated for Killers of the Flower MoonSandra Hüller for Anatomy of a FallGreta Lee for Past livesCarey Mulligan for Maestro and Margot Robbie for Barbie.

“This makes no sense, so,” she said of winning the award in such good company. “Thank you so much for this, it means so much to me. I was serious. I don’t know what to say.”

Stone’s win at the Critics Choice Awards comes shortly after her win at the 2024 Golden Globes, where the star won Best Motion Picture Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. For Poor peopledirector Yorgos Lanthimos and screenwriter Tony McNamara’s sequel to their Oscar-winning Favoritethe producer-star received her fifth acting nod from the Critics Choice Association.

The 29th annual Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler and airing live on The CW on January 14, recognized the most deserving film and television of 2023 as voted by Hollywood critics.

Barbie dominated the film list with a total of 18 nominations, including Best Picture, with Oppenheimer and Poor people commit 13 nod. From the TV side, Morning show led the contestants with six nominations, followed by Succession with five.
