Emma Stone’s Dress Breaks at the 2024 Oscars — and She Blames the Wardrobe Malfunction on ‘I’m Just Ken’

Emma Stone’s 2024 Oscars dress is bursting at the seams — and she says it’s Ryan Gosling’s fault!

At the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday, Stone, 35, took the stage to accept the Oscar for Best Actress and began her speech by revealing that she suffered a wardrobe malfunction on the way to the stage.

“Oh man. My dress is broken,” the star began, turning around to reveal a broken zipper on her custom mint Louis Vuitton dress.

According to Stone, the accident happened as she did La la country costar performed his epic Barbie ballad.

“I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken.’ I’m pretty sure,” she added as the crowd cheered and roared.

Stone also warned the crowd that her voice was “a little off” — possibly a result of her screaming and singing “Me Too!” after Gosling passed her the mic during the ballad.

Before the zipper malfunction, Stone, who won best actress for her role as Bella Baxter in the Poor peopleturned heads on the red carpet in her Oscars look — a strapless silk jacquard gown with a stunning architectural peplum skirt.

When asked about the mint-colored dress — the crown jewel of her memorable awards show — during the Hey! before the red carpet show, Stone told host Laverne Cox, “I don’t even know how to explain it.”

The actress’ stylist Petra Flannery paired the dress with a 30-carat yellow diamond necklace, also from Louis Vuitton, while her hairstylist Mara Roszak was inspired by the “classical architecture” of her dress.

Like his La la country Costar Gosling also drew attention at Sunday’s ceremony.

As he serenaded Stone and the rest of the Oscars audience with “I’m just Ken,” the actor nodded to both Barbie and another blonde icon, Marilyn Monroe, in a hot pink, sparkly suit.

The actor’s custom Gucci suit, along with outfits worn by his background dancers and fellow Kens — Scott Evans, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Ncuti Gatwa — seemed to nod to one of Monroe’s most legendary moments on screen.

From Gosling’s Barbie-pink gloves to the dancers’ bow ties and striped shirts, the costumes were almost identical Gentlemen prefer blondes the scene where Monroe performs “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
