Equestrian Star Georgie Campbell Dead at 37 After Falling Off Horse at Competition: ‘She Could Not Be Saved’

Equestrian star Georgie Campbell, 37, died on Sunday, May 26, at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England, after falling from her horse.

“It is with deep regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) has suffered a fatal accident while competing,” British Eventing, which governs equestrian sport in the country, wrote in a statement.

“Medical workers came immediately after she fell on fence 5b, but unfortunately it was not possible to save her,” the statement continued.

British Eventing noted that Campbell’s horse, named Global Quest, “returned to the barn and was uninjured” following a vet assessment.

“To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, we will not be sharing any further details,” British Eventing’s statement concluded.

Campbell married fellow competition driver Jesse Campbell in December 2020. The couple has posted about the Global Quest several times this year on their Team Campbell Eventing Instagram account.

“Global pursuit at its best 🤩 George, owned by @morrishdiana, was in serious form at Osberton to finish 🥉 at 3* from over 110 starters,” read the headline posted on May 5, while another recent one said: “Georgie’s the guys were on fire with Global Quest and Speedwell jumping awesome double clean 4*.”

The equestrian community mourned Campbell’s death on social media. Accounts for fellow rider Pippa Funnell and Bicton Arena, among others, all shared an image with three emojis: a white heart and a purple heart hovering above a dove carrying an olive branch.

“Our thoughts are with Georgie’s family and friends at this devastating time,” Bicton Arena wrote in the caption.

Instagram users also added their condolences to Team Campbell Eventing’s May 5 Instagram post. “Deepest condolences on the loss of Georgia. We pray for you to find comfort and peace in the days ahead,” wrote one user.

“I am so so devastated for all of you,” added another. “You are all in my thoughts and prayers x.”
