Dick Vitale is anxiously awaiting the appointment to determine if he is cancer free.
“I keep thinking about December 12 when I go in for a big check-up to determine if I’m cancer-free after the last 30 radiation treatments. 🙏🙏🙏,” the longtime sports announcer, 85, said in a Dec. 4 post on X (formerly Twitter).
“If I did, it would be my STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!” he added.

In a Dec. 5 update, Vitale said, “I feel great, but I have a lot of anxiety about the exam. For cancer patients, I’m sure I know that feeling.”
The sports announcer said for Sarasota Herald-Tribunethrough The Spunthat he had high hopes for the scan.
“Obviously, I’d love to be able to sit courtside and do what I love: talk about what’s going on in college basketball,” Vitale said. “At the moment I’m just focusing on what I’m dealing with at the moment, which is to follow the advice of my medical team and recover from the cancer after six weeks of radiation.”

Vitale revealed in an Instagram post in June that he had to undergo a biopsy after a new cancer was found in one of his lymph nodes.
“Definitely not the news I wanted, but I plan to do everything I can control to win this new battle. 🙏🙏🙏,” he wrote in the caption.
Vitale added: “Thank you so much to those who were in my corner. It means a lot to me.”

In 2023, Vitale underwent radiation for vocal cord cancer after first being diagnosed in July of that year.
Vitale was previously diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2021 and melanoma. He announced that he is in remission from cancer in August 2022.
