Fantasia Barrino Wears Lilac Skirt in a Nod to The Color Purple for First Trip to the 2024 Golden Globes

It’s a big night for Barrino, who is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in The Color Purple

Fantasia Barrino came to slay the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet.

Purple star and Golden Globe nominee, 39, wore a strapless gown and opera gloves for her first trip to the awards show. The design featured a black velvet top and silver skirt with lilac trim.

Barrino has been in style this awards season.

While she tends to wear different shades of purple like the film’s producer, Oprah Winfrey, as well as her co-stars, including Danielle Brooks, she and stylist Daniel Hawkins also enjoyed showing off her taste in tailoring.

For the film’s star-studded premiere in Los Angeles on December 6, she was spotted in a tailored Sergio Hudson train set.

A day earlier in ELLEAt the Women in Hollywood celebration on December 5, she rocked a Yousef Akbar design and Jimmy Choo platform sandals.

For the Black Excellence Brunch on December 3rd where Warner Bros Purpleshe shone in a strapless white Lia Stubll dress.

Tonight at the Golden Globes, Barrino is up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Barrino stars as Celie in the 2005 adaptation of the Tony-winning musical.

The American Idol The season three winner also played the part on Broadway, an experience she told PEOPLE she “hated.”

“It was around the time that my life was so crazy, so it was almost like I was carrying my cross and Celie’s cross. I didn’t know how to get out of that character,” she said in an exclusive interview.

When approached about a role in the film, she admitted, “I thought, ‘I’m not sure if I can do it or if I want to do it.'”

Seeing director Blitz Bazawule change the story inspired Barrino to change her mind.

“He showed me that he gave Celie’s imagination this journey so that the audience could see how it went. I was completely.”

When the film debuted in theaters on December 25, it became the second biggest Christmas opening of all time.

Costar Danielle Brooks, who plays Sofia in the film, is also in the hunt for a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
