Flavor Flav Has Been Wearing the Same Cologne Since Fourth Grade: 'Come on the Scene Fresh and Clean' (Exclusive)

Flavor Flav shares his secrets to smelling good.

The rapper, 65, tells PEOPLE that finding the right scent is essential.

“Everyone should want to smell fresh [their] under the armpit up to [their] toes,” he says. “When I was a kid, my dad always kept Old Spice in the bathroom cabinet. So that was the cologne I wore when I went to school in the fourth grade.”

In order to always “come to the scene fresh and clean”, he says that it is also necessary to be a devotee of showering.

“Hey, after every hour, nothing wrong with a shower,” he rhymes with a laugh. “It’s the only other tactic I use to smell good, you know what I mean?”

Flav knows that showering multiple times a day is a bit much, but adds that if he does the dishes more than once or twice, it’s for a “good reason.”

Today, Flavor Flav is highlighting his love for another Old Spice product: Total Body deodorant. As part of his partnership, he elevated his favorite NFL team, the Detroit Lions, in an Instagram video about keeping it fresh, alongside Kay Adams and Spice Adams.

“Just met two of the freshest legends, @flavorflavofficial & @spiceadams! 🔥 We dive into the book of all things fresh with @oldspice Total Body Deodorant 🏈,” Kay wrote in the caption. The duo also shared the full footage on YouTube.

Flav couldn’t help but tell PEOPLE about his persistence and how much he loves the smell.

“It was there before I was, and I think it will be there after I’m gone. Physically, I mean,” he says with a laugh.

Flavor Flav even wore an Old Spice themed piece of jewelry for his commercial. He rocked a red watch on a gold chain with the brand’s logo and the tagline “Lasting Freshness,” of course.

“And the watch has a bit of freshness,” he says of his watch.

Flav says that at this point in his life, he’s not even sure how many watches he has in his collection, but if he had to guess, he’d say it’s “a bunch.” As for how they are stored, there is no particular method to the madness. In fact, not all of them are even in his own house.

“I was just throwing them around,” he says. “Some in this bag, some in that bag, some on my wall at home. I have some clocks at my sister’s house, some in my children’s cribs. I have clocks everywhere.”

He also likes to share the joy when it comes to watches – making watches for other celebrities like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Jordan Chiles and more over the years.
